“It’s funny i can click about 4 topics down on the main horse racing thread (not chelt thread) and see two of the people giving off in here talking about the Supreme.”
Why is it so hard to understand that people can be interested in Cheltenham as opposed to ONLY being interested in Cheltenham?

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"January 19, 2022 at 22:31 #1578831I know that this is well off thread , and therefore I apologise to the opening poster. However the discussion seems to have gone off in another direction.
I would be totally opposed to another day being added to the Cheltenham festival. That
said , I cannot understand the opposition to “some” of the previously added races.
To not have a championship race over roughly two and a half miles is , in my opinion , idiotic.
If you have a horse who is top class but cannot stay 26 1/2 furlongs , why on earth should it have to compete at an elite level over 16 furlongs ?.
Very Promising was the perfect example of this unfairness.
To go back to the original post , I think that this Lingfield meeting can only be regarded as positive. I accept the point regarding the likelihood of soft / heavy ground , and nobody wants to see exhausted horses being “bottomed” , but hopefully jockeys will be sensible and pull up , where appropriate , also.
It will also be good to give soft ground performers a chance to shine for once , as racecourse drainage systems are not what they used to be.January 20, 2022 at 06:21 #1578842If you were ‘Sensible” would you be a NH jockey?

The “Elite” is not confinfined to Cheltenham. Many 3yo’s don’t stay a mile, but are top class. Hard luck, they are not suitable for a classic. Some are specialist 10f horses. Tough, they won’t win a Classic wither.

January 20, 2022 at 16:23 #1578881Being a young trainer Dan Skelton is the future of National Hunt racing so I find it depressing that all his top horses are going straight to Cheltenham, indeed Protektorat won’t have seen a racecourse for over 3 months when he lines up for The Gold Cup.
As for Lingfield,it’s a bold initiative that deserves luck with the weather but can’t help thinking it would be better off as a 1 day meeting on Sunday.January 20, 2022 at 19:14 #1578900Fingers crossed it dodges the frost.

Then make the fences brick walls with barbed wire on them
(Actually those protestors are usually nice and I sort of admire them in a funny way)
January 21, 2022 at 09:58 #1578949Hunting day
But witn a twist
A huntsman all dressed up gets a head start
From a pack of lions that haven’t eaten for a week. Only fair to balance things out a bit isnt it?
A chortling commentary from thommo to add a final touch
And we laughed
January 21, 2022 at 12:06 #1578980I hope the jockeys ride sensibly today. It sounds like the ground is very heavy and horses finishing legless is not a good advert for racing.
January 21, 2022 at 13:31 #1579000The mud is flying and Venetia’s horses are winning. Who could have guessed?
January 21, 2022 at 13:33 #1579001The Mighty Cthulhu will absolutely hack up on this ground on Sunday. 5/1 is manna from the very depths of the Oceans and Seven Seas. Gwan The Gosh.

Surely this can’t be classed as equivalent to Dublin Racing Festival. Thank god for the Cheltenham Festival.
