“More seriously you have pinpointed the biggest advantage flat has over jumps and I say that as a true jumps fan.”

Flat Racing is becoming the new Jump Racing – it’s surreal!

Back in the day the NH stars like Night Nurse etc would slug it out time and time again while Vincent O’Brien 3yo after 3yo was packed off to stud sharpish.

Nowadays The Derby winner is more openly campaigned than many Grade 1 jumpers!

Yes cork and Absenting Percy was another example. The trainer seemed to have a bloody nervous breakdown and a promising horse lost it’s way totally.

What the owner thought god only knows

Shelling out for something that never runs. Might as well buy a rocking horse

Looking forward to Cheltenham being 5 days

    Best week of the year

I’m sure all the misery guts on here will disagree because it was 3 days in the 1950s and everything was better back then

The more the merrier as far as I’m concerned

“Looking forward to Cheltenham being 5 days”.

Even smaller fields with even shorter favourties. Sounds, err, shite.

Give me classy meaningful Saturdays after Saturdays

By half way though day 4 I’ve had enough frankly

Who would prefer to watch their football team play its biggest matches five days on the trot?

5 days? Can’t wait for the Mares Cross Country Chase for Amateurs and Conditionals. ;-)

Are there LGBTQ+ horses? If so, they deserve their own races. 3x chases (2m, 2 1/2m and 3m) and the same for hurdles.

Throw in a handicap chase for all the veteran LGBTQ+ horses who, shamefully, have not received any recognition until now and that’s day five sorted.

Ah I see the main misery guts have responded as suspected

Should call this area general moaning not general discussion

People with positive opinions need not reply round here hahaha

No wonder the forum gets quieter by the year, most of you don’t seem to like anything about horse racing these days

An early contender for most ridiculous posting of the year has emerged!

I like the Cheltenham Festival, I wouldn’t even mind it being five days, but anyone who thinks people don’t seem to like anything about racing, because they want to enjoy the narrative of the season as a whole, is like the football “fan” who only actually watches The World Cup.

I think you mean “anyone disagreeing with me need not reply” FF.

You feel a 5th day would improve things. Ok, which 6-7 races are currently lacking?

That isn’t what I meant by that comment TTC at all was more of a general musing about the negative outlook of most of the threads in this section

Since you all love your weekend racing so much I look forward to an increase in discussion in the big races section each week

Be nice to get all the threads on the weekends better races into a second page

Bit of irony in this thread championing the week to week racing having way more comments than almost every thread discussing said racing

NH isn’t big enough to support all these races, there simply aren’t enough good horses for all these races. It barely warrants 4 days, let alone 5, which is madness – but will happen.

Why are there 3 Gd1 Nov hurdles (plus the Triumph), Nov chases, and Open chases? It’s one race too many in each division.

Have to admit i’ve been quieter on them recently, not as into the English weekly drab.

In saying that, i agree FF91. Plenty of moaning on here about chelt and “Irish cheats”….Would be nice if some of them contributed to the big race threads a little more then. There’s a lot less Irish competition on those threads…..get involved.

If it has to be 5 days, I hope it will be 6 races a day which would mean only having to invent 2 more.

Cheltenham was 3 days as recently as 2004. The decision to go to 4 days was commercial. No one is under any illusion it will revert to 3 days but it was a better festival then.

The Ryanair, Turners, Bartlett and all the Mares races have diluted the racing. I do not see how anyone to argue otherwise.

I still take the week off for Cheltenham and enjoy watching it but I do not treat it as “Racing’s Olympics”.

It is possible for trainers and jockeys to have a good season without obsessing with Cheltenham. Middle tier trainers should probably forget about it to an extent. They have no chance in the graded races against Henderson and the Irish Big Three. And little chance in the handicaps thanks to a few Irish horses being at least 7 lbs well in.

Final declarations for Lingfield Friday are made this morning – can’t wait.

If anyone refers to any of the winners of these excellent new races (good contests in their own right) or the races themselves as “Cheltenham possibles” or a “Cheltenham trial” etc I hope admin bans them off TRF for a month!

    Stop….OBSESSING….about Cheltenham!
