Back in 2001, while working at Flutter, just in case anyone periodically needed reminding of my clinical insanity, I would randomly turn to my colleague Rob, seated next to me, and say: “So, who was your favourite rabbit in Watership Down?”
Two years later, I actually moved to North Hampshire, near the West Berkshire border, where the book was set.
Anyway, it has to be Blackberry for me, though Big Wig, Fiver and Hazel run him close.
You?

Fiver’s premonitions remind me of my old brother in a paranoid sort of wayCharles Darwin to conquer the World
April 26, 2021 at 18:17 #1538042The film was reasonably faithful to the book – great choice.

Blackberry’s a good choice. It would probably have to be Hazel for me, though I always had a sneaking and – given his initial affiliations – slightly controversial regard for Campion.
April 26, 2021 at 20:08 #1538068Hazel totally understandable – Campion would have been VERY interesting, a conflicted character IMO!

Roll over Chatty Rat
Give way to King Rab.Forget Fleet Street, He alone wonderfully senses the pulse of the populace and the direction of the public mood.
Who ?
What do you mean who ?
Who is he ?
He is the reincarnation of Mission Impossible
What, a sort of God ?
You’re gradually catching on.
Tell him Tom.Tom – Yeah, he is the GODMAN. To put it another way, if you had a bunch of homing pigeons and you set them loose, you could bet your bottom dollar that Davies would get home first.

I read that and smiled.

You've got to accentuate the positive.
Eliminate the negative.
Latch on to the affirmative.
Don't mess with mister in between.April 27, 2021 at 16:11 #1538155The Black Rabbit Of Inle is a deeply disturbing choice – in fact, I can only think of one option arguably equally alarming.

The Black Rabbit is their version of death, but in the 78 version they free to play with it and have no worries.

Don't mess with mister in between.April 27, 2021 at 19:24 #1538233A few years ago in the lanes near where I’d live saw either a rabbit or hare dashed by a few metres away in a field , then a minute or two later saw a dog (whippet or greyhound bred) dash by, obviously in pursuit of the rabbit/hare and it reminded me of the opening lines of WATERSHIP DOWN
“All the world is your enemy, and if they catch you they’ll kill you. But first they must catch you!” and I knew that the dog had no chance as fast as it was.
