    I presume there is some deterrent to try and prevent horses being doubly declared but can’t find it on the BHA website, anyone know what the penalty is?

    Shoving "Kahlil Burke" as a search term into the BHA’s

    Stewards Room

    resource throws up a whole raft of information which may help.

    E.g., taken from http://www.bhb.co.uk/resources/about/wh … em=087778;

    "The Disciplinary Panel of the British Horseracing Authority held an enquiry on 23rd October 2008 to consider whether or not Kahlil Burke, a licensed Trainer, had committed a breach of Rule 144(ii) of the Rules of Racing, in respect of his declaring HASANPOUR (IRE) to run in two races on the same day otherwise than as permitted under Sub-Rule (iii) of this Rule. The matter was referred to the Authority by the Southwell Stewards, this being his third offence within a twelve-month period.

    Having considered the evidence the Panel accepted an admission from Burke that he was in breach of Rule 144(ii) in that he had declared HASANPOUR (IRE) to run in the South West Racing Club Handicap Chase at Newton Abbot and the Sponsor A Race at Southwell Handicap Chase at Southwell on 19th August 2008.

    Taking into account that this was Burke’s third offence within the previous twelve months, the Panel imposed a fine of £2000 upon him.

    23rd October 2008

    Notes for Editors:

    1. The Panel for the hearings was: Patrick Hibbert-Foy (Chairman), Hopper Cavendish and Sandra Arkwright."

    Thanks for that graysonscolumn, there seems to be a regular supply of doubly declared horses, quite a few today and Suzy Wong (J Akehurst) was declared for two races on the same card at Epsom last saturday, don’t know what punishment he received though.
    I just wonder why the authorities aren’t doing more to deter, it’s not as though aren’t enough non runners as it is and people picking and choosing the best option after doubly declaring is not fair to the rest.

    Connections of Cambridgeshire winner Credit Swap also guilty with the execrably-named Yourgolftravel Com at Newbury a few weeks back. They also have a horse of the same age called Your Golf Travel. Bastards.

    You in bad mood again Rory? :D

    I honestly never knew it was now an offence although having had no reason to think about it.

    Used to be you could declare for 2 races and have 1st and 2nd preferences. With the UK weather being the UK weather I thought that was always a good idea.

    Has that been scrapped now?

    Seems silly if it has. We often hear complaints about races only having 3 or 4 runners surely it’s better to give horses as much opporunity as possible to run. Allowing them to go to meeting B if the ground changes at meeting A, surely would help keep the numbers up and attract more betting revenue?

    Highly unlikely if punters pick up there papers in the morning to be confronted by multiple horses having double declarations and not knowing where they were all going to run.
