Mergedrink
That seemingly attracts ‘idiots’ for want of a better word who have no interest in the racing, yet seemingly only go for a good p*ss up.It is a mindset i struggle to understand, would said persons go to a rugby or football match and go and drink beer, get hammered, but sit their with no interest in the game? ? ?
I have been to 3 racing meetings over the past 3 weekends and this seems the norm. Groups of lads mistaking Aintree for Amsterdam and Newbury for Newquay.
Im all for the sport attaining new spectators, it is good for the industry, but does it send the correct message when people who obviously cannot handle their drink are being rowdy and loutish, when people who are genuinely interested in racing, want to focus on the action and have a decent day out.

February 20, 2010 at 22:20 #278156One reason why we don’t go to Uttoxeter as often as we used to.
February 20, 2010 at 22:25 #278158Wherever you go and whatever you do there will always be idiots who can’t control themselves.
Aswell as at the races, I’ve been to football, rugby and boxing events and seen plenty of people who only have an interest in the amount of alcohol they can consume and how ‘off their face’ they can get.
Unfortunatley though that’s how it is and I can’t see it changing.
There seems to be a lot of Stag Do’s that hit the races, I was on one myself not long ago and was staggered that so many of the group had come to the races and not had the slightest interest in it at all, 3 or 4 of them just stayed in the bar all afternoon and didn’t even have a bet!

Me and my family have been abused at a racecourse by drunken lads, we walked away to never return to the track again.
Gaz I have noticed it for a few years now, the Super Sprint at Newbury was like a carnival for pikeys with druken lads jumping over the fence onto the course with the stewards onimously doing nothing, people taking the piss out of jockeys, taking the piss out of horses and trainers, vulgar words about the lads and lasses walking their horses around the parade ring.
Countless muppets, I tend to just go low key meetings now were you can watch the horses at peace and generally get chating to a few knowledgable people that feel the same.

Crisis in public behaviour.
Sorry aren’t you the losing punter, who wets himself and sticks dildos up his arse for fun
February 21, 2010 at 00:23 #278172I was at Newbury last weekend and saw nothing. Am a Newbury "grandstand" (tatts) member. Never seen that much trouble there. One fight between a tall bloke in a dress with steel toe-caps and a short weekling. Suppose that’s the stag do’s. "Courage day" is one to miss, stewards seem to turn a blind eye at stuff that day. Sponsered by a drinks company.
Can’t remember if that is the Super Sprint day? I keep away from bars anyway.Do think this type of thing is spreading. It’s society’s problem. Went to my first football match the other day. there was a bloke with his kids in front of us. All the swear words you could think of were shouted at the away fans. The father the biggest culprit. Why is foul language acceptable in songs, when there are children present? If it’s acceptable, then they’re teaching kids swearing is o.k.?
At least there is nobody in racing shouting "the steward’s a Bxxxxxx Wxxxxr"!

Why is it Mr Wilson, you complain your family were "abused" at a racecourse; yet you come out with the above?

So you chose to turn a blind eye, or ‘walk away’ when faced with the raucous thugs on the race course, who were ‘abusing your family’, but fully endorse the more pathetic and cowardly option of attacking people with disgusting insults for no good reason on an internet forum, Mr Wilson?
Good man.
February 21, 2010 at 10:25 #278207I can’t understand why people pay £20-£30 to get in a racecourse then stay in the bar with no interest in the racing and pay rip-off prices for drinks. Why not just go to the local pub

As others have said it’s a general problem in society, where there is alcohol there always seem to be many young – and not so young
– people who can’t control themselves. The courses should do the right thing and restrict alcohol to bars; not allow drinks outside bar areas and enforce the rule with professional stewarding.February 21, 2010 at 10:52 #278211Happy wrote…..Girls dressed in nothing more than a handkerchief.
When is the next meeting please, Happy??
KFebruary 21, 2010 at 12:33 #278235this is one reason im glad im a jumps man and dont bother going flat racing,my last meeting is always the finale meeting at sandown and its noticeable that these morons reapear at this meeting and i assume they ruin racecourses through the summer until it gets too cold for them.
February 21, 2010 at 12:59 #278239I have been a regular at Doncaster,Pontefract and Beverley for nearly 20yrs now and the locals certainly know how to enjoy themselves,Doncaster in particular used to have the "Underground" fraternity that never surfaced from the bars under the main stand from the start of the meeting to well after the last race, all they did was drink and watch the screens down there and yet i have never witnessed a single incident of unruly behaviour!Perhaps its just because working class Northerners know how to behave themselves at race meetings, much the same as rugby league matches!

I agree with you totally Gaz – I stick to attending meetings in the week now. I used to take my kids with me at weekends but after a few incidents with drunk race goers we decided not to. Only exception is the Boxing Day meet at Market Rasen which is still a great day.
