..that Treve had a nice easy race today. Jarnet did nothing on her, and didn’t need to win it, it’s only about one race with Treve.

Yes, that narrow defeat, ricked back and getting beaten by horses rated a stone and a half lower are the ideal prep trio of runs for the Arc.

Maybe this is a Barney Curley type of coup in progress. Watch her odds dip from 10/1 to Evens by sun-up

..you don’t need to win the Vermeille to win the Arc..

..last year Treve beat Wild Coco and Tasaday 1-3/4L and 3-1/2L… how close do you think they’d have got in the Arc..?

I said last year that Treve would have to be a lot better than her win over Wild Coco to win the Arc. That was part of the reason I didn’t back her last year.

The Arc wasn’t even on the agenda for Treve last season. People seem to forget that the trainer wasn’t sure she was mature enough but the plans changed when the horse was purchased by new owners.

Nothing before last year’s Arc indicated Treve would win in the manner she did and nothing she has done since has been remotely similar. All we have is the one race where she looked special and it should be remembered that she wasn’t looking all that great at one stage before she found a burst and came past to win impressively in the end.

Plenty of people rushed to declare her an all time great and perhaps the best filly ever. It is always hard to compare year to year but last year’s Arc form can be pulled apart with the ease of a Chinese lantern almost a year on.

    The Arc

    is

the race that matters but there is not one person who can seriously suggest that they expected that Treve would have lost her first three races this year and then just head to the Arc full of confidence that the big one is the only one that matters. They jocked Frankie off for God’s sake, hardly a sign that everything is AOK with last year’s champion.

I find the notion that there is no need for concern a bit ludicrous and as my old Mum would have said:-

"Yon’ Cricket Head, her erse must be makin’ caramels after that"

Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.

Aiden doesn’t place the horses, the lads(magnier, tabor and smith)do. He is an employee of coolmore. I doubt there is a trainer who has so much pressure to deal with as him. Too many snipers on here as opposed to those looking at things objectively.

Any replays of Toronado’s race? please.

I would look for it myself but have been away for two weeks and have too much to do.

If that was the case, and Coolmore were really running the strings, Ryan Moore would be retained by them.

Ruler of the world is already on the coolmore site as going to stud at the beginning of next year. Maybe a good run in the arc may change that.

    Thanks Ghost.

No excuses for Toronado there as he was in an ideal position and if the pace was slow(I’ve only watched it the once) then Night of Thunder has finished like a train.

I believe Ryan Moore was offered the job but didn’t want to relocate to cashew co Tipperary preferring to stay at Newmarket. Joseph then came along and as he is there every day does the stable jockey role. Aiden is a hard boss apparently and many jockeys have been stable jockeys at coolmore. All have found it tough and I don’t think it’s a coincidence that j murtagh rode his best spell in the saddle after leaving ballydoyle. Joseph is never going to win being aidens son but is regularly employed by the likes of Eddie lynam so he must have a good degree of talent.

    What I learned:

4 Cursory Glance and Gleneagles won the big 2yo races but neither of them are anything special.

Gleneagles is a useful colt but you get the feeling that he might be horse for this season rather than next. O’ Brien has several candidates for both colts classics and some of those look likely to pass Gleneagles with time. He may turn up in the Guineas but I can’t see him as a Derby winner. I have sided with Ol’ Man River and hope to see him in The Racing Post Trophy before going into the winter as a prominent player in the betting for Epsom.

Cursory Glance is a steady enough filly but makes no appeal at 10/1 for the 1000 Guineas. The Moyglare was a funny old race with the O’Brien horse a bit inexperienced and wayward, leaving the fav to come home in front without convincing that she will confirm the form next May and be suited by a mile. The Coolmore team have other fillies who are lightly raced and/or impeccably bred yet unraced and I actually thought Words looked a more natural candidate than Found for the Moyglare. I haven’t seen a filly from the usual Coolmore rivals who looks like a Guineas candidate. Tiggy Wiggy and her sparring partners look like sprinting is their game and that is why I took a chance on Al Naamah blossoming into a Guineas contender with stamina not an issue. She flopped spectacularly but Andre Fabre says they will still probably aim her at the Boussac. I don’t buy into lack of experience being the cause of her downfall, which is the excuse the connections are putting forward.

I’ll be leaving the 1000 G for now but I am keen to oppose Cursory Glance. High Celebrity might have been one to consider but I can’t erase the fact that she managed to get beat by Arabian Queen in the Cherry Hinton.

Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
