So … what d’yall think of Leona Lewis’ new album then?
December 18, 2008 at 01:29 #197740I bought and downloaded Alphabeats Album last week before my trip out to Huntingdon and was very impressed with it.
Tracks like Fascination and 10,000 Nights arew really good and ones which would get a crowd going at a concert or disco.
Also the Neon Neon track with Cate le Bon was really good and enjoyed it when it got played on the Culture Show as the playing out track.
Also Elbows track One Day Like This which is very good and i love Music in the popular maintream which uses an orchestra as it makes it sound even better.

Also the new Girls Aloud track as it is a cracking song and was co written with one of my fave bands the Pet Shop Boys and im a huge Girls Aloud fan anyway.
December 18, 2008 at 07:31 #197800That said Snow Patrol have become entirely predictable, repetitive, formulaic and boring since that high point in their careers.
I would disagree with that Firefox, Snow Patrols first album was largely a kicking up beat album, their second was a lot more downtempo, and had a variety of tracks with different feels.
Their new album hasnt really grown on me and where I would say that there are maybe two tracks that would be relatively similar in style to a few individal tunes of the second album, the restof the album generally isnt, which is the main reason I dislike it.
Personally, I would say that Snow Patrol have their own style with musically quite a lot of range, but I would much rather they went back to the way they were doing things, as IMO they have went a bit, tinny meloncholy and dreary on much of this new album. But the last two albums were amazing albums that you can put on and listen to right through, which not many bands can muster especially consecutively, that may however be down to the fact that they look a long time to break through and probably had a fair few songs stashed to the side.
A band that would match your description to a tee firefox would be the Kaiser chiefs and I would say Snow Patrol are considerably better than them.
Also Elbows track One Day Like This which is very good and i love Music in the popular maintream which uses an orchestra as it makes it sound even better.
Brilliant track and a good call Niel, too good to be left out.
December 18, 2008 at 07:52 #197801The hope is that if the Ladyhawke track falls next week, as I believe it will, it will not fall too far that it can’t recoup places once all the Christmas tracks plummet back out of the charts the week after (as last year’s chart behaviour indicates they certainly will).
I think your right that it may not hit its top placing until after christmas, but I think it may be bordering onthe top 20 this week, the Youtube video has went up more than 100,000 viewings in the last week or so, and she has featured on the live lounge recently, whichRadio1 are plugging all over their website, performing a cover of Britney spears- womanizer which isnt all that bad actually but like the original it does get a bit repetitive towrds the end.
LadyHawke – Womanizer (Radio 1 Live Lounge)
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=oRE7fjZfSMoThere is definitely a lot of competition this week but I think she’ll climb rather than fall.
December 22, 2008 at 04:13 #198581you wereright jeremy, ladyhawke nowhere to be seen in top 40.
December 22, 2008 at 04:38 #198586Aye, down to 47. Meh.

The Blonde movement returns! Five surly Yorkshire teens bring back memories of the Primitives, the Darling Buds, and all that sort of thing – magnificently.(graysonscolumn)
Wow, I’m suprised to see that band there. Then again, your music tastes do seem pretty comprehensive! I’ve seen them loads of times in Leeds, so I’m afraid I’m going to have to be petty – they’re not teens (they wouldn’t thank me for saying that! but they’ve been in a few bands before, including Pop Threat, who were good too: http://www.myspace.com/popthreat) and Darran is the nicest guy you could ever meet (though surly on stage, which is only proper).
Burnt Out Landscapes was my favourite album of last year. Heat And Panic, You’ll Never Get That Guy and Life In Vain are genuine classics.
They’re touring with a New York band called Crystal Stilts soon. They’re really worth checking out too, particularly their signature track and Shattered Shine ( http://www.myspace.com/crystalstilts ).
January 30, 2009 at 02:18 #207101I’ve not played much music since Christmas [have just lost a very dear friend and when I’m feeling sad I’ve learned not to play music as once you associate it with a bad event you can’t listen to it again] but listened to the latest Killers tonight and now I’m listening to Santagold..
February 6, 2009 at 19:34 #208492Love Santa Gold L.E.S. Artistes Moe, just heard this one this morning on MTV Two by the Filthy Dukes and love their electro pop sound.

The next two from the much underated composer Simon May and for many a staple of 80s Tv on Sundays after the regular fix of Bullseye,Corrie and many other things.
March 18, 2009 at 00:53 #217090just checking out Mastadon, Decemberists, Bat for Lashes, PJ Harvey and the new Pete Doherty, who has actually got his act together and made [or so I’ve heard] a pretty good album; as I really loved his last one I’m looking forward to hearing the new one….at the moment I’m just playing The Killers last album which has really grown on me; good car music…[annoyingly Pete..if he turns up..is playing Rock City tomorrow night but I’ve got tickets for our village hall’s production of Up the River, or something like that; probably too old for Rock City anyway…..]

Plus also noticed youtube have the secret track from the end of the Kasabian first album, the remix of Reason is Treason, which is IMO better than the original.

Been listening to the bravery again a bit lately too.
March 18, 2009 at 02:18 #217119Isn’t it time Kasabian brought out a new album [me and my daughter really like the one who wears a hat..until he starts talking]
March 18, 2009 at 17:34 #217188If my daughter has her way (she’s nearly 18months) I’ll be mostly listening to either "Old Macdonald" or "Incey Wincy Spider" for the 7,597th time!!!!!
March 18, 2009 at 17:57 #217191I spent most of yesterday afternoon singing Postman Pat [very catchy that one is] along with Baa Baa Black Sheep..this is in an attempt to wean my grandson off Thomas the Tank which is doing our heads in….when my daughter was tiny she loved Madness.
May 10, 2009 at 01:48 #226586Really like the new Bat for Lashes album; found it quite boring at first but listened to it in the car
and it’s grown on me; Kate Bush meets PJ Harvey meets Bjork with a bit of Jefferson Airplane and Fleet Foxes thrown in.
