Another good win for Brackley. Even better with Chester being held to a draw by Needham Market.

An excellent point for the Sandgrounders away at Peterborough Sports, especially after our goalkeeper was sent off after only 5 minutes. They also had a player sent off just before we equalised.

It was a good win over Curzon Ashton at Haig Avenue last Tuesday. It was the first time I had seen them win since the end of October!

Better still, I managed to buy a ticket for the away match at Marine on 11th March. As soon as the National Hunt Chase is over, I will be off to Rossett Park in Crosby.

CAS its wobbly bum time here in Brackley, but still a way to go. We have lost in the final play off game twice. So I have no expectations for the magic promotion.
Glad your lot the Sandgrounders are keeping a fair distance from the relegation zone.
Thanks as always for your input. :good:

As normal another blank week for my bets, Ill have a rethink on my silly approach for the rest of the season.
Probably need to go back to basics and do singles.
Struggling to understand why Exeter had SIX subs, something to do with the recent concussion sub thing.
Reminds me of Dean Richards at Harlequins and the blood subs.

Southwell was ok, not a great standard, but I had my reasons to attend..

    Northampton V Stockport
On current form Stockport are favourites, yesterday Cobbs were 7/2 for the home win, so I took that 18@7/2
Today Cobbs are 11/4, so I beat the bookie.
Stockport dont have a great record when playing at Northampton, so I may have a chance.

On my way to Southport for tonight’s match with Leamington (postponed from the cold snap in early January).

The betting has Southport as strong favourites with 5/2 available against Leamington. I reckon it is closer than that. Southport have a long journey and huge effort to recover from and a bug running through the squad. Leamington had a good win on Saturday, although they have a poor away record.

I hope we get all three points but a draw would not be a bad result. Maybe that should be the bet.

I suppose the main event in NLN tonight is the Durham Derby between Spennymoor and Darlington.

Northampton all over them like a rash..but didnt kill the game after the first goal.
Stockport score in the 79th minute to secure a draw..BUGGER.
Cobbs seem to be focusing on the set piece route, long throws and corners etc.
Im sure Dyche will pull me out of the fire..hes having shots headers when in the box.
    Cheltmas soon.. :yahoo:

CAS, how were Leamington? I suspect Jim will be very much under pressure now. Shame as hes a good one for this level.

Leamington were poor, one of the worst teams I have seen this season. But to be fair, they created 3 chances and took 2 of them.

It was a very frustrating game. Southport had by far the most possession. Then we fell asleep in first half stoppage time and conceded a soft goal.

The second goal was controversial. A 50/50 challenge broke for Southport in a potentially good position. All of a sudden, Leamington’s player decided to clutch his face and roll around in agony. The referee stopped the game, the trainer came on and the lad was on his feet in seconds. From the resulting drop ball, Leamington went straight down the pitch and scored.

After that we hit the bar and had one or two half chances. But overall it was a disappointing performance. As I feared, it looked like the long journey and big effort on Saturday caught up with us. We were low on energy and ideas. It is an ageing squad and I think they find it difficult to go again just a few days later.

A few of the fans have been restless for a while now but I think overall there is still a bit of good will towards Jim. He is under contract to the end of next season, so I doubt he will be sacked.

CAS, is this Jims first Season? If so, with a few new players could be good for Southport if he remains there.
If Brackley do manage to go up, the best bet for next season will be to go down. They have no ambition to go full time, and I hope they dont mirror the late Rushden and Diamonds and collapse after a few seasons in the sun.

It is Jim’s second season. He took over early last season when we were in the bottom four and looking like relegation certainties.

He kept us up, which I think partly explains the goodwill towards him. He is also generally very good in his YouTube interviews after each match, which I think most fans appreciate.

Recruitment has been the main issue. I am not sure how much was Jim’s responsibility but they need some young blood in the team. Too many of the ageing players are injury prone and the squad has had to be patched up with loans.

Part of the problem last Tuesday was all our full backs were injured. The club has just secured another one on loan, someone who played for Fylde when Jim was manager.

I expect he will play tomorrow against King’s Lynn. I would happily take a point ahead of the Marine game.

“If Brackley do manage to go up, the best bet for next season will be to go down. They have no ambition to go full time”.

I know what you mean. I think you have to be full time to compete at that level. Southport were full time when we were in the National League but we took the decision to go part time a few years ago after relegation.

I look at teams like Curzon Ashton (part time, average gate less than 500) and wonder if they could possibly survive in the league above. They are better off in the NLN.

The downside with relegation is it can turn into a slippery slope. Blyth Spartans were in NLN last season but were relegated. They have had a dismal season are now odds on to be relegated out of the Northern Premier League. A poor state of affairs for what was once a big non league club.

    Leyton Orient V Northampton
Orient on a poor run of form that will no doubt change with the Cobbs in town.
Although Cobbs have managed a few decent draws lately, to maintain their push for the play offs Orient will have to be in attack mode, Cobbs now play a high press so with a little luck could win this. Long throws and corners seem to be the best attacking threat from Cobbs, so sticking with Dyche to score.
    Dyche first goal 1@66s
    Dyche anytime 2@25s
The Burnley loanee Costelloe puts himself about and has score twice in his short time at the town.

    Brackley V Alfreton
On paper should be a home win.

Brackley now top of the league.

The first half of Southport v King’s Lynn was a classic case of a part time team up against a full time team. They looked quicker, stronger, smarter and just far better. The first goal was poor but the second (a free kick) was pure quality.

I thought we did OK in the second half but King’s Lynn were content to defend their lead and from their point of view they saw out the game with the minimum of fuss.

The fan forum has exploded with anger at Jim Bentley but it is the usual suspects moaning. I am not sure he could have done much more against a full time team higher up the league.

Having said that, the next two games (Marine and Rushall) are important. I think we need to take 4 points minimum, although Marine won again today and are full of confidence.
