Difficult decision this Saturday – does one plan to go "oop north" or "dahn sarf"? Wetherby has potentially the best card but what do you think the ground will be like? Many of the trainers who have entered horses say they will only run of the ground is good etc. I wonder if they mean good as in between good-soft and good-firm, or good as in jolly nice? Given wetherby seem to have been watering for weeks and can’t get the firm out of the description, and there is no rain forecast, it is likely to be the same as the meeting a couple of weeks ago. So do you think many of those entered at the moment will desert on Friday?
Does charlie hall day sell out anyone know?
October 28, 2008 at 16:02 #186838Seems to be plenty of runner doubly-declared between Ascot and Whetherby on Saturday, aji. With both courses apparently having question-marks about the state of the ground they provide, it’s probably a toss-up.
October 28, 2008 at 16:35 #186847I’d expect Charlie Hall day at Wetherby to be busy, but I can’t imagine it would be a sell-out.

October 28, 2008 at 19:12 #186887Think I’m giving both a miss, but Carlisle on Sunday is looking very likely, notwithstanding the 9.5 hour round trip involved. Here’s hoping that at least some of the pretty classy types that feature in the 5-days for the intermediate chase stand their ground.

October 28, 2008 at 20:09 #186893Wetherby for me,just hope for everyones sake that the weather behaves as it looks like being a bit nippy for the next couple of days or so.
October 29, 2008 at 01:15 #186947Normally i would do Wetherby but giving it a miss after my two days of racing at Aintree.
Should be a big crowd for what is one of the big jump meetings of the North.
October 30, 2008 at 03:08 #187099Haven’t missed a Charlie Hall for a few years and providing the fields are half decent will be there on Sat. I’ve never booked in advance so should be no problems getting in.
Bear in mind it’s Ollie’s Cheltenham
October 30, 2008 at 03:14 #187100only been to wetherby once and would love to again….but have they sorted out the grandstand? It was a bit of a tip last time i went
October 30, 2008 at 11:59 #187120Hello,
Went to Wetherby a couple of years ago, (Charlie Hall). Members is very good, but let in too many people and if you are not there early it is standing room only inside, and hellish getting a drink. There are plenty of seats just outside where there is a good view straight down the home straight.
Warning, when it is cold up there, it is bloody cold…
There are still problems post racing where your only option is to walk back to Wetherby across the A1. You could try ordering a Taxi to wait outside, but he may not get through.
I like Wetherby, but to get the best out of the members facilities I would recommend a meeting other than the heaving Charlie Hall…Oh!, there will be of course the drunken coach parties and all the possible problems that accompanies that..

regards,
doyley
