And we’re away!
As you’re looking at this post with a new shiny design wrapped around it you will have realised the site has now been updated successfully. We’re very excited about the new version of the site and hope that all of you all will be too.
The site took a few hours longer to update than expected which we apologise for. We had to make sure everything was well backed up incase something bad happened like a hamster falling over in the wheel that powers the server and due to the amount of intense debate on the site it took a while to back up and restore into the new site.
We think about 1 in 8 of you will have problems logging in with your password. We’re sorry about this and wish we could have resolved it but unfortunately this is something we couldn’t avoid – it’s a known problem in the latest version of the forum technology we upgraded to. You should be able to get over this little hurdle without too much difficulty though. You’ll find that you get an error message informing you that your password couldn’t be converted. If you then follow this link you’ll be able to request a new password be sent to you.
Once you’ve logged with your new password, you’ll be able to change it to something memorable and what’s even better is that you’ll able to save your profile details once you’ve made the change – something we know caused some problems on the old site recently.
As the dust settles we know there might be the odd problem which we may try to pin on the hamster but when you find any problems, please report them to us, using the contact form in the footer. If you can, please include information on the browser you’re using as this will help a great deal.
Enjoy the new site!
September 29, 2009 at 19:11 #250799Well done, now can you fix the clock please, only 2 years in the making……
September 29, 2009 at 19:12 #250800You must be havin’ a laugh, the site is all over the place, full of ads and no time stamp, clock is still wrong (it’s now in the future), it’s more grey than a stormy day
wow this is really a mess, I’m very sad to see TRF like this
rest in peace TRF

I won’t be back feel free to delete my account!
September 29, 2009 at 19:18 #250801Looks good although will take time getting used to. Don’t have an issue with the ads, can easily block those bar the SportingBet ad at the bottom.
My main gripe is not being able to use AutoPager anymore. I loved being able to scroll through entire threads without having to change page, ie. clicking on the 1st page and every page thereafter would load automatically immediately underneath.
September 29, 2009 at 19:21 #250803I hadn’t noticed any ads until you pointed them out Jim!
You just keep your eyes down and to the left. Simples. [/color:33wmvaxu]September 29, 2009 at 19:27 #250805Just posted on this thread and it disappeared!?

Congratulations, all.
Like anything new it will take time to adjust but I’m sure we’ll cope.

September 29, 2009 at 19:41 #250810Is the site supposed to take up so much memory ? I looked at the task manager and it runs at 110,000 k, with is up to treble some other sites. I think that’s what causes each page to take time to load ?
September 29, 2009 at 19:43 #250811Jim JTS, I’m really sorry you feel this way about the new site.
The post time stamp has been enabled now, this was a bug.
Colin – great to meet you (and the others) at Ascot on Friday.
September 29, 2009 at 19:48 #250812I wonder who has posted that lovely image in the chat room?
Mmmmmmm.
Cheers for the work guys,no site is perfect especially a free one!
September 29, 2009 at 19:49 #250813This is going to take a bit of getting used to .. the adverts are taking ages to load.

As I said before it’s definitely an improvement, but the right-hand column is still far too prominent, the login/logout area is awkwardly placed – why not display these options in the grey navigation bar? – and the homepage is rendered pointless by the inclusion of ‘hot forum topics’, ‘recent forum topics’ and ‘most active members’ on every forum page.
The draws of TRF are reasoned debate (for the most part), knowledgeable contributors (again, for the most part) and the facility to learn, and I see no reason why anyone’s focus should be taken away from that. I understand that adverts are an unfortunate necessity, but the space on the right-hand side of the page could be put to much better use.
– Drop the account options in to the navigation bar
– Include a brief introduction to TRF in the right-hand column
– Include a ‘join now’ option in the right-hand column
– Include quicklinks to feature articles in the right-hand column
– Intersperse the right-hand column with adverts as required
– Remove ‘hot forum topics’ etc from the right-hand column altogether
– Remove the homepage altogetherThere’s also an issue with the ‘Topic review’ feature whilst posting.
A good start, but there’s plenty more that needs to be done for me.
September 29, 2009 at 20:00 #250816Well done to everyone for working hard today to get the site back up in as short a time as possible.
It’ll take time to get used to and I’m sure there are lots of glitches to be ironed out so if everyone can please bear with us, while giving us feedback on what’s working and what isn’t, we’ll get things fixed as quickly as resource allows.
September 29, 2009 at 20:24 #250820The bad news for everybody is that I can log in without any problems so you will still have to put up with me

I’ll get used to the larger space than normal on the right hand side but
1. The site is running very slow compared to the old one – the old one was about 5 times faster.
2. When posting a reply as I am doing now, I have noticed that the previous comments by other users are all mixed up when I look at them.
Hopefully these problems will be solved in time.
September 29, 2009 at 20:29 #250821Where is ‘all posts read’ button? often saves me reading a lot of tosh.
