I don’t know what class the race is but it would seem worrying that it was once called the 14 Krone rather than 1000 Guineas ;)

Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.

One of mine too ‘Godolphin’.Definitely in my top ten of all time favs,he was like a fine Wine as a Racehorse, slow maturing but always had Class.I remember him running at Goodwood one day as a 2yo,he spent more time looking at the Scenery than the horse in front.I marked him down as a Derby horse from that moment unfortunately Aiden didn’t agree and definitely ran him over the wrong trips as a 3yo but as a 4yo he finally sent him over a 11/2m and he battled like a lion to win the King George,I was on him at 14/1 for that race as I was the POW,I even had him in a rare Ante-Post treble that paid off.Had Aiden trained him for an Arc campaign he’d have been placed too.I like this

    Love Marmalade

,seen him twice at my local course and he’s a progressive handicapper. One thing about the Dukes progeny is they will improve with age,I just hope he sires something half as good as he was one day!

I remember Gord banging on about the Duke on Channel 4 teletext. I borrowed myself £100 out of the xmas savings pot(don’t tell the wife) and was counting my winnings when all of a sudden Papal Bull came thundering down the outside with a blistering run and took the lead I nearly pooooooped my pants but the Duke fought back. Happy days…… :D

I dont recall that one ‘Godolphin’he always came across as a laid back quiet sort to me,I remember him coming over for the Juddmonte at York and it being rained off so he flew back to Ireland then flew back again at the weekend for it to be re-routed to Newmarket,he only beat

    New Approach

of all horses! I remember before he started his 4yo campaign me thinking what races he’d be trained for and the POW was one I reckoned would suit,he’d ran in the St James Palace as a 3yo so the course suited imo.I took all the 14/1 I could get and he won at Evs,I’d already got 14/1 about him winning the King george.Skybet went a standout 10/1 for the King george straight after the POW,others were 5/1 so I actually opened an account with them just to get on!My biggest bet though was at 33/1 for the Arc,I thought he was going to have that race as his No 1 target, unfortunately Aiden got greedy with him! The morning of the Arc I was playing in a Golf tournament in Wales, we had played a 4 ball on the Saturday afternoon and we were set to play again on the Sunday and I made some crappy excuse about an injury as to not play in it so I could get home for the race itself,I drove 3 hours home only to see him somewhat dissapoint! He was still a good horse to me though and one I’m always looking out for as a sire.

Nath I get emotional watching that race still! I had Nadal/Wimbledon 5/2 ,Spain/Euro 08 4/1, and ‘The Duke’ 10/1 King george in a treble!

A favourite of mine also. I remember the Wexford races were on the day before he won the King George and as a bold and brazen young lad I said to Johnny as he was going around the parade ring before a race "Will Duke stay tomorrow?", "’Course he will" Johnny said with a smile!

On the subject of the kick, are you sure you’re not thinking of Yeats? Think he might have let fly after one of his Gold Cup wins!
