Supposedly primed for a return to the track around Christmas/new year.
Do you guys think he can still be a force despite his cruel injury record? Hopefully his lack of races recently will counteract his age.
It’d be great if he made it to Cheltenham on the Wednesday in anything like his best form. What a race we’d have on our hands!
September 19, 2008 at 21:17 #181666My feeling is that, sadly, the boat has been missed with this fella and we will only ever be able to guess at what he might have been capable of granted a ‘clear run’…
September 19, 2008 at 22:37 #181669Don’t think he will come back the force he was. they tend not to the older they get. Even Arkle didn’t comeback. I hope I am wrong and the Jumping for Fun forum boys will know what a rubbish judge I am because he is a fine horse and it would be good to see him against Master Minded and Voy Por Ustedes this termm.
September 19, 2008 at 23:08 #181671I can’t see Master Minded and Voy Por Ustedes meeting again to be honest. Master Minded looks set for a two-mile-only campaign, and Voy Por is unlikely to drop back to the minimum given his classy Aintree performance.

Don’t worry, Bob, there’s no Redstar or Walker over here…as far as I know.

September 19, 2008 at 23:30 #181678I thought Well Chief had been retired.
I must have dreamt that one.
September 20, 2008 at 12:56 #181714I’d like to see Well Chief return and be able to run to his best more than else in the coming National Hunt season. Unfortunately, after the problems he’s had it will be a miracle if that happens. If you look at what the 2m division has been like since Moscow Flyer & Azertyuiop were retired it’s obvious that had WC managed to avoid injury he would have dominated. He would definitely have been a match for Master Minded last season. I know MM was hailed as a superstar after his Champion Chase win but in my opinion Moscow Flyer, Azertyuiop & Well Chief would have defeated VPU in just the same way.
September 20, 2008 at 13:18 #181717I don’t think you would get much argumant there Arazi MM took us out of the duldrums when coming on the scene.
Well Chief was a lovely horse even if he wsn’t the best around. Him coming back would add a bit of spice to the season if he could return with a couple of easy wins.
The problem is when horses of his age have ben inactive for so long they always seem to lose that vital edge of their pace….Try telling Aldaniti that
Love to see him come back with a bang
September 20, 2008 at 13:23 #181718The scary thing about Master Minded is that Nicholls thinks he’ll be even better this season!
September 20, 2008 at 14:01 #181729Would love to have seen more of Well Chief.
A fantastic horse, such a shame he has had so many injuries.
Would be great to see him back.

Considering his age Mac my parrot could tell you he will improve. The problem is he will be meeting much tougher oposition in Tiday Bay…If he can do to him what he did to VPU I will be very surprised. Not saying he won’t beat him but no way on earth is there 15 to 20 lengths between them
September 21, 2008 at 12:48 #181831In response to those who think he might be retired. If you go on David Pipe’s website you will see him listed amongst the horses in training. So presumably there are plans to bring him back. It will be good to see and if anyone can get him back it will be the Pond House team. Their scientific approach to things is something I greatly admire.
September 21, 2008 at 13:29 #181841Pipe was getting interviewed on Get On a week or so back, and confirmed that he’s back and looking well. They’re planning to have him out early in the new year, with another crack at the Champion Chase his main target.
Fingers crossed it goes well for him – he deserves it.
