During the football season I have a fiver treble based on the theory that by backing "bankers" I will get a return that not only pays for my fiver "big coupon punt" bet but also wins me a few quid extra. So far this season I have not been doing too well but I have found that a lot of the time I have been getting 2 of the 3 bankers in and perhaps a small adjustment to my betting strategy might help.
Last weekend Arsenal let me down and it would have been a nice result had they won and made up a winning treble with Man City and Bury. Instead of losing a fiver with just a treble, had I split it so that I had staked 3 x £1 doubles and a £2 treble then I would have got a return of £4.89 instead of nothing.
I can’t remember the Arsenal odds, I think I took 7/10, Man City were 4/9 and Bury were Evens so the treble would have paid 3.9/1. If we compare this to the alternative strategy of 3 x £1 doubles and a treble (assuming all win) then the payout there would be…
Man City 4/9 + Arsenal 7/10 = £2.45 (return to a £1 stake))
Man City 4/9 + Bury Evs = £2.89
Arsenal 7/10 + Bury Evs = £3.40
The treble = £9.82 (return to a £2 stake))
Total return is £18.56A £5 treble would have returned £24.55
One way of looking at the difference of £5.99 (being £24.55 – £18.56) is to say that this is pretty much an all or nothing approach, whereas if amounts like £.25, £2.89, £3.40 etc werecollected, then these would add up over time and surely be considered more as less risky? Add in the good chance that a few trebles would come in, then I feel this could be a better way of trying to make a profit over a period of time.
Since the Premiership season started, I have been doing a £5 treble (not including international weekends) and so far I have placed 9 trebles and am showing a £4.07 profit. However had I adopted the other approach using doubles +trebles, then I would currently be showing a profit of £11.68.
In order to further show what I am saying, I will put up my 3 selections here for the rest of this year and see how the results pan out, i.e. would I have been better off sticking to a £5 or not ?
This weekend my bets are…
Derby 8/11

November 23, 2014 at 21:08 #496258Nice one Trendy.
Derby seem to win when I don’t back them for individual matches so I’m leaving them alone as I have a thick wad on them for promotion. Had I bet Newcastle would of won but Norwich would of let me down. Really fancied Palace today but you cant bet against your own team.

There is a line of thought that suggests this is the best thing to do, if they win you are happy, if they lose then you collect. If they draw, you shrug your shoulders and mutter something about "there’s always next week!!"
My 3 for this weekend…
