A rare 5pt bet today. Sparkling Eyes (5:30S) looks a risky propositon based on its recent form, but it didn’t handle the fibresand two runs ago and didn’t handle the track at Goodwood last time. Prior to that it ran 4th in the Queen Mary Stakes, beaten just over 2l by Gilded. There are no excuses left for today regarding trip and ground so if it to ever reproduce that QM form it will be today. 11/8 is the current price with bookmakers but the 2.78 on Betfair looks much more apertising.
5pts Sparkling Eyes @ 2.78 (5:30 Sandown)

Sparkling Eyes was smartly into stride and had them all off the bridle early as she travelled sweetly against the rail. Dee Jay Wells kept tabs early but Sparkling Eyes powered away to win by about 4 lengths. A very pleasing result obviously and it does suggest form at Goodwood (and Epsom) can often be ignored.
Taking the 2.78 or sp would have given a nice profit of 8.75pts. I hope I managed to talk someone into it.
August 16, 2006 at 21:41 #66616good call FSL
August 16, 2006 at 22:35 #66617Nice winner, confidently tipped.
August 16, 2006 at 22:49 #66618Thank you; I’d have looked a bit stupid if it had lost though! I just thought if you ignored its last two runs (which you could) it would be about 1/3 as it had to make a cock-up to lose.
August 17, 2006 at 12:23 #66619The balance of her form entitled her to be a 7/4 shot, if the QM run didn’t flatter her (which it probably doesn’t) she should have been 3’s on. Good call.
