    Idiots.
The reason why Cheltenham is so good is that it’s top quality competitive racing.
It’ll just be like any other Festival from now on.

3-4-5 incremental. Should be around for the five day festival. Probably brown bread before it reaches six

I would be just about OK with it if there were only 6 races a day but I suppose that is not going to happen.

Obviously a gap for a 2 mile six furlong chase…..

    Greed, greed, greed.
When are the BHA going to grow a pair, live up to their name and show a bit of Authority?

There will still be the Sunday going begging – don’t rule out six days at both Cheltenham and Ascot in our lifetimes.

I preferred Royal Ascot when it was four days. I liked the Ascot Heath meeting on the Saturday!

I understood why they added races last year given the highly unusual circumstances. Not convinced keeping most of them this year was necessary. Have five more handicaps improved the meeting?

Betfair Royal Ascot turnover 25% DOWN on last year, apparently.

More races, yet less money being bet.

If this is the same across the industry has saturation racing finally hit the law of diminishing returns?

Morons…. Trying to ruin another great meeting by adding unnecessary races. Have to agree with Ginge about Cheltenham just being another 5-day meeting. A lot more horses with different Festival targets will bypass each other throught the entire season. At least they could add a 2m4f Bumper to the racecard.

Cork, you’re right about the “old” Royal Ascot with four days plus Ascot Heath on Saturday. I also miss the Wednesday Derby…..

Wearing this analogy a bit thin, but at the moment we have 3 days worth of jam spread on 4 slices of bread. Adding another slice of bread isn’t going to magic up more jam.

I assume a four mile handicap chase would be among the extra races (Gloucestershire National?), which would do the Midlands National no favours. Where exactly is there room for any more races without impinging on numbers in other races?

“Betfair Royal Ascot turnover 25% DOWN on last year, apparently.”

Was the turnover last year significantly higher than previous years? I ask because it was the first really big meeting since Cheltenham given the lockdown and a lot of punters may have bet a bit more than usual through being glad to see racing back.

My fear is those in charge, the custodians of this sport are ruining it.
Perhaps it’s a need to change things, make their mark and to justify their existence. Have any of their decisions really bear extra fruit?

It’s the same in football and probably other sports as well. There are changes and decision making going on at the top which are making the game harder to watch, much less enjoyable.

In the end, people will find other things to go to or watch, that is the danger.

The trouble is in many cases the people at the top make these changes thinking they know best, but in truth they are out of touch and risk killing their sports.

Four of the top ten races for betting turnover in 2020 were on the fourth day of the festival with the gold cup/triumph hurdle showing up in the top 5 for 2018/2019/2020

Personally Ive found the first 3 days significantly more profitable for backing than the 4th

Definitely need a 2m hurdle for horses sired by non Coolmore stallions….or horses foaled on Tuesdays.

The NH season is already hamstrung by ‘The Festival’ being the focal point, to the detriment of the rest of the season. They should be trying other things apart from making it worse.

I did see a comment that we need a 2m4f Gd1 Hurdle at Cheltenham – No, we don’t; we have one at Aintree.

I think there should be a three mile novice hurdle for mares so we can watch another Mullins odds on chance hack up.

Dreadful idea, but it will make room for the race I’ve always wanted to see added to the program.

A big TRF welcome please for the Ever Decreasing Circles Veterans Cross Country Chase, for 11 year olds and upwards, trained in Ireland, run over seven miles on the cross country course.

Limited to amateur riders related by birth or marriage to past Festival winning jockeys or trainers.

All runners will wear green and gold hoops, with multiple distinguishing caps.

To avoid financial damage to bar profits caused by the length of this race, the off time will be 30 minutes after sunset.
