    The admirable Watson Lake passed away at the weekend.

    He was the winner of eight graded races including the G1 Drinmore Novices’ Chase among his twelve career wins. He never fell or unseated.

    After eight years in training and so close to retirement, I’m sure connections are devastated.

    That’s awful. I was in a pub in Co Clare a few years ago and my friend told me that Watson Lake had been bred by her next door neighbours, so I alway took an interest in him. RIP Watson Lake.

    Lovely consistent horse, I will miss his name on the cards. He gave a lot of people a great deal of pleasure.

    He broke a leg in a freak accident in his field.
