One of the best jumpers of a fence I’ve ever seen. It’s a pity he got a leg straight after his Gold Cup year. Who knows if he would have been able to mix it with the Nicholls pair at his peak?
Great to see him go out on a high. Thanks for the memories.
April 21, 2010 at 17:15 #291539Just got back from watching it at the bookies. I’ll never forget his race with Brave Inca all those years ago. Pleased to see them both now retired in one piece, hopefully with a long and happy retirement ahead of them. Yes; good memories.
April 21, 2010 at 17:48 #291542Happy retirement WoA.

April 21, 2010 at 18:16 #291545I was willing him home when they turned with 4 to jump. I never believed he could win, but when he soon came into contention; i thought he could actually make it. Although a win would have been the ultimate moment; a second place in front of some of the best of the present and the future only underlines how good he is.
April 21, 2010 at 18:32 #291547i fantastic swansong, for a very talented horse, glad to see him going out on a great effort, a true fighter of a horse, very game, may he have a long and happy retirement

Long and happy retirement to him.
April 21, 2010 at 19:01 #291554Great to see him go out on a high and in one piece. A credit to connections. Wish him a long and easy retirement.
April 21, 2010 at 20:28 #291573A true lengend, the commentator called it ‘a storming race’ & ‘the race of his life’ in the space of two fences. Would’ve been nice if he could’ve ended his career with a win but to beat Cooldine, Denman et al when he hasn’t really jumped many fences lately is pretty special.
Had to laugh in the bookies. His last race, the trainer wanted him at peak fighting weight & to get there clearly hadn’t fed him for a day or two. At least that’s my explaination for War Of Attrition wanting, nay demanding, a wee nibble of grass before he’d get interested in lining up at the start.
‘I’m retiring today & I want grass, the rest of you will just have to wait.’
April 21, 2010 at 20:57 #291576I remember thinking the minute
War of Attrition
won the 06 Gold Cup at Cheltenham,he would win the 07,unfortunately injury intervened. He is the sort of horse you could put in a field of 50 others and you would pick him out straight away,he has a very heavy front end but he can jump like a stag,he will be a very difficult horse to replace!
Weapons Amnesty
will do him proud and win next years Gold Cup!
April 21, 2010 at 21:24 #291584Mouse Morris already has a ready made replacement TAPK. He’s another Gigginstown owned son of Presenting. Goes by the name of First Lieutenant.
You heard it here first

No offence mate, I like your posts generally, but does every thread have to turn into your ante-post selections? Couldn’t we have just kept this thread to admiring WoA.

I reckon Mouse’s stubborn streak robbed him of a right chance at Aintree.
Who knows though, may have been for the best- it was a privilege to be at the parade ring after the Gold Cup today to cheer the old boy- thank God he bows out in one piece.April 21, 2010 at 23:29 #291612In fairness to Mouse and O’Leary, I think their decision not to run him at Liverpool was definitely influenced by what happened to Hear The Echo there last year.

Apologies dubai, the trouble with me is that i am the ruler of the Ante-Post kingdom and all my posts have some bearing towards just that, the above post is paying tribute to a Champion and is basically saying that connections can look forward to further success in the now famous Purple and White silks or "The King is dead long live the King" get it?
