I have been unable to find a list of runners (apart from the betfair site but I dont think that is accurate).
Has anyone found a list of intended runners with trainers listed also.
Had a word for an Irish runner!
October 9, 2008 at 13:46 #184102Whats the irish Runner?
October 9, 2008 at 14:12 #184104October 9, 2008 at 14:23 #184106Interest from our side of Europe from Nadover with Noel Fehily on board and Ivoire De Beaulieu ridden by Keith Mercer.
October 9, 2008 at 14:26 #184107Am delighted to see that old Contraband has been scratched from the Pardibice (as I assume the list at the bottom of the decs indicates).
If ever a horse deserved a peaceful retirement now, this is it. I really do hope he is put out to grass.
October 9, 2008 at 16:21 #184118Agreed.
Contraband is gone at the game, and should be retired to the hunting field, or just a field. It’s sad to see a formerly smart performer being hawked round every unrealistic big race to serve his owner’s ends (which remain a total mystery to me).
Fergus Wilson is an unmitigated disgrace, and the authorities should find some way of stopping him.
It’s only a matter of time before one of his horses is killed attempting a ludicrous race, or brings down/hampers a leading contender in the Gold Cup or similar.
October 9, 2008 at 16:26 #184120Thankfully that’s exactly what it means, Sauron – "Škrtnuti" fed into the Czech-to-English dictionary gave me the translations of "deletion", "cancellation" and "scratch", which all have a reassuring enough finality about them.
I don’t think Fergus Wilson is represented in the race at all, is he? Azulejo and Fustrien Du Paon don’t line up, either.
British interest doesn’t start and finish with the Pardubicka, by the looks of it – Fehily partners Poseidon’s Secret in the fourth race, a 2m4.5f hurdle, and Flight Command in the sixth, a 2m6f chase (from which recent Uttoxeter scorer Alphabetical is a defection).

October 9, 2008 at 23:03 #184151Nothing on the RP site, what a surprise, eh?
This site has a "spotlights" type review on the runners:
October 9, 2008 at 23:22 #184154This race is THE European race of October, who cares about Zarkava when you get a proper race like this.
October 9, 2008 at 23:43 #184157What’s the prize money like or this race? Are any of the Racing stations covering it, and if not, why not?
October 9, 2008 at 23:52 #184158Didn’t ATR cover it last year? I’m sure I remember seeing it on there.
October 10, 2008 at 00:01 #184161The race is worth 4.5m Forints, which equates to £14,366.04pp, according to one currency conversion site.
Sorry, this is complete rubbish, have corrected in later post.
October 10, 2008 at 00:03 #184162I do remember once a few years ago when i paid my first ever visit to Carlisle at tomorrows corrisponding meeting and i bumped into John Hunt who i know and he was calling that day.
I asked if ATR were showing the Pardubica and he said that they could do but they had no British commentator covering the race so they probably would not bother.
I genuinely suggested that they could download the colours and get one of their people i.e. Tony Ennis,Dave Smith for example to do a commentary off the monitor and with it being 4m2f their would be ample time to call it.
So i turn ATR on Sunday afternoon at off time and what happens, ATR show the race live with Mike Vince doing the call live in the ATR booth.
Anyway it will probably get posted on Youtube as has happened to last few runnings of the race.

That’s not right. Pretty sure race is worth about £50K to the winner.

Whoops, sorry, the Forint is the currency of Hungary, not the Czech Republic!
So, 4.5m koruna equates to a total prize fund of £144178.17pp

You’re still thinking about Overdose, aren’t you!!!!
As you can probably guess, I love my Czech racing – if I hadn’t had to work so late today, I would have added to this thread long before now! Apart from the official Czech Jockey club site that has already been mentioned (dostihy.cz), there are some other websites you might want to check out:
http://www.paddock-revue.cz – Paddock Revue, an English language website all about Czech racing. One of my favourite sites on the web, what’s not on here isn’t worth knowing as far as the Czech racing scene goes.
http://www.vpcp.cz – The official website of the great race, and if you click ‘Start’, you’ll see a faboulous digitised intro of Peter Gehm and Registana – you can’t tell it’s them really though, as they’ve been a bit ‘over-animated’. Make sure you click on the union jack afterwards though (unless your Czech is up to it!)
http://www.freewebs.com/becher123/index.htm – An excellent site done by Englishman Chris Simpson, who is to the Velka Pardubicka what I am to the Hamburg Lake Race! Loads of history about the race, and a personal account by Chris of what it’s like being an Englishman obsessed with the Velka.
As for the race itself, I always do a preview, which I’ll probably post in the ‘Races’ section, but being a big fan of cross country races all over Europe, I can tell you that the Italian challenger, Fatal Mac, could well be the horse to beat. You can actually see his recent victory at the amazing cross country course at Merano here:
http://www.ippica.biz/1/14_sch/14_cor_r … tit=Merano[ITA] – LXIV Pr. Delle Nazioni-Mem. Marco Rocca&vid=1
You probably won’t have seen anything like this before, but I like fence 3, which resembles some sort of archeological dig!! And watch the volume, because the Italian commentator does have a habit of interrupting quiet parts of the commentary with some heavy breathing!!
Darren – AngloGerman

I’m guessing that this must be the same Chris Simpson who commentates on the occasional point-to-point meeting. As labours of love go, though, he could do far worse than the Pardubicka.

What a wonderful racecourse. Enormous hedges – check! Timber rails – check! Banks – check! Bits nicked from Badminton Horse Trials – check!
Having had a closer look at the ippica.biz database, I can see the appeal with Fatal Mac – he seems a horse transformed by the transition to cross country races, with 8 wins from 12 tries in the discipline since July 06 (assuming my Italian translation has held up entirely…)
And watch the volume, because the Italian commentator does have a habit of interrupting quiet parts of the commentary with some heavy breathing!!
Just what the commentary world needs – an asthmatic Stentorian…
