Three trainers have been suspended in Maryland USA after their horses tested positive for Stanazolol, an anabolic steroid. One was banned for 30 days (with 15 days of it suspended if he behaves himself in future). Another was banned for 60 days. The third, who had a horse test postive for the tranquilizer xylazine as well as two horses test positive for stanozolol, was banned for 330 days.
Not exactly a tough drugs policy.

But at least the thoroughbred breeders in the USA are taking note of the new steroid policies in Europe
“The racing and breeding industry in North America is devising a plan of action to accommodate the British Horseracing Authority’s zero-tolerance policy for the presence of anabolic steroids in Thoroughbreds.
The issue was discussed during the Feb. 3 Consignors and Commercial Breeders Association symposium at Keeneland in Lexington for the benefit of consignors, breeders, and owners that may purchase young horses at auction and ship them to Great Britain, or send racehorses abroad to compete.”Full details are here: http://www.bloodhorse.com/horse-racing/articles/89955/bha-steroid-policy-has-us-ramifications#ixzz3QrTwUhD8
Will the USA be cast adrift from the rest of the racing world in the near future?
