Interesting that they are citing racism as a cover for the likely fraud.

The fear of being branded racist is the big unspoken story as far as Obama’s critics are concerned.

Everyone is scared stiff of being accused of racism. It’s been reported that the attacks on Obama’s record in the United States are having to be far more muted and restrained than they should be, for fear of being branded racist.

He’s predictably getting a far easier time, both sides of the Atlantic, because of this.

Be that as it may, Crusty, at least, since the assassinations of the Kennedy brothers, all US presidents have, when Republicans, been puppets of the far right, from inclination, and the Democratic presidents, puppets of the far right to a slightly lesser – though significantly for the public, in the overall sceheme of things – by ‘electoral fraud’ triage, even in terms of their choice of primary candidates.

I’m sure Obama took the message, when someone was mysteriously able to get through his body-guard protection: ‘longevity has its place.’ Had he sorted out the financial world, there, root and branch, instead of putting some of its chief and worst players, in charge, he would have had every reason to fear for his life and those of his family members.

People have to adapt mentally, so Steinbeck’s dictum is not such an indictment of the intelligence of the average American, as it might seem at first glance: “Socialism never took root in America because the poor see themselves not as an exploited proletariat but as temporarily embarrassed millionaires.”

The German right wing would be regarded as Socialists in the US, not to mention the Scandinavians, while in Europe, the Democrats would be viewed as being to the right of the post world-war II, old-school Republicans. Wall-to-wall plunder of the country and its people.

As is occurring in the UK, instead of the globally-catastrophic polarisation of the country’s wealth by the right wing disqualifying them terminally from government (requiring total rebranding), the Republicans would consolidate their wealth and supercharge the plundering process.

It’s so obvious, with Ryan’s hero-worship of Ayn Rand, the overtly demonic idoliser of a child-killer, among her wee foibles, that even Romney’s far-right supporters know they have to let him bullsh*t to glory. Apparently, he was pushed forward by Obama’s team, to make it easier for the Dems.

The devastating storms that have battered New York and other areas of the east have handed Obama a golden opportunity to steal a march on Romney again.

If he can skilfully and cynically exploit the chaos by appearing strong, compassionate and decisive, he will probably be in with a good chance of pulling off victory.

Presidents and other leaders know the political advantage of dealing effectively with a disaster, whether it’s a terrorist atrocity, a war or the forces of nature.

It’s a cynical, dirty business securing political advantage out of a disaster that has claimed many lives but you can bet your bottom dollar that Obama will be doing everything he can to shore up his vote and attract a few new ones by doing the right thing in the aftermath of this hurricane.

It also puts Romney on the back foot. If the president announces cash injections of millions of dollars to help the victims and the stricken areas, as he will do, that is going to buy plenty of votes.

It’s an ill wind, or even hurricane, that blows nobody any good. Obama could storm to victory now…

for all that the opinion polls say:

    http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/latest_polls/

the money on Betfair even after the first TV debate was 1/2 Obama, 2/1 Romney.

today its 1/3, 3/1, with "GBP 13m matched".

I never thought it possible but the Republicans seem to have found somebody more stupid and dangerous than Bush junior and it seems a lot of Americans are turning towards him.

I think for greater world stability it’s (marginally) better that Obama wins, however having done my calculations I can see the "Electoral College" going:-

    Obama 266 Romney 272

Here’s the best analysis I’ve found-Nate Silver was off by just one state predicting the 2008 presidential election and he correctly called every senate race. http://fivethirtyeight.blogs.nytimes.com/
The big swath of red states is shrinking fast-Virginia, North Carolina, Iowa, New Mexico, Nevada all very purple, Pennsylvania and New Hampshire and Michigan all completely blue now.

blow-by-blow NYT diagram indicates 512 paths to the White House, of which:

    431 lead to Obama
    76 lead to Romney
    5 lead to a tie:

Obama certainly made a good victory speech and was generous in his acknowledgement of Romney as an opponent.

It remains to be seen whether the two of them really will be able to work together for the good of the economy. I suspect it was all a bit of a charade and any idea of a common purpose will evaporate in bitterness and recriminations.

The huge and growing Hispanic vote seems to have been a crucial factor now that the United States is even more of a diverse mix of races than it has ever been.

It’s even being questioned whether a white candidate of Romney’s social and business background will even have a chance next time in the face of such a simmering melting pot.

No wonder Cuban-born Senator Marco Rubio is being tipped as the next Republican candidate.

One thing’s for certain. Shares in black hair dye will take a tumble now that beady-eyed Romney has had to bow out… :D
