    1545 at Downpatrick today.

Not the highest profile of the provincial National’s, but one I normally like a go at.

I’ve got a backup on Amaulino here. Not seen under rules since flopping big time in this last year, but by all accounts showing some improvement in Points lately. I bet him last year, and he was pretty bad. On a mission to get that cash back here.

The Cromwell pair of Spades Are Trumps, & Peaches and Cream make plenty of appeal, as does Envol Pierji, under Connor Orr, fresh from his win on Screaming Colours.

My main bet though is Thunderosa. Followed him last year over hurdles, and a very likeable type. Slow burner over fences, but a lot more like it last time, and swerved The Leinster National fir this. I think the 7’s with Bet365 is fair, and hoping for a good run from him.

    Amaulino 12’s
    Thunderosa 7’s

    153 Portstorm
    143 Envol Pierji

    141 Thunderosa
    140 Conqueredalofeurope
    138 Peaches And Cream

Solid enouh form from the top two and will take them against the field.

Portstorm had form against decent animals when trained in Scotland and looks to be coming to a peak. Envol Pierji needs a break between races which he has before this, solid staying chase form and better than finishing position suggests on latest outing.

Well that was short and not so sweet! There must be 8 of ’em out of the race already, after about a mile!

That was a Demolition Derby over the first two fences. Hope all horses and riders are OK.

At least the start was OK, unlike the farcical first race.

That was a strange day of racing at Downpatrick. In the last three races, two of the favourites ran like absolute drains and the favourite in the Hunter Chase jumped the last in front but almost stopped to a walk up in the run in before finishing third.

Only one of my top five got beyond the second fence. **** happens, move on!
