To continue from the Starmer thread, where CAS has stated that Trump did not back down over invading Greenland, he has completely backed down. He saw Canada and Europe stand together in opposition, realised he can’t bully everyone this time, and made a total u-turn.
January 23, 2026 at 13:16 #1751325The point is that Carney has shown that if Europe (including the UK) stand united, we can see off the evil and irrational Trump and his mob of bully boys.
You can tell they are very upset with the UK as they are flinging insults our way (absolute lies of course).
Starmer please note, stand up to Trump, do not grovel to him.
January 23, 2026 at 16:24 #1751339You don’t believe Trump was seriously considering invading the territory of another NATO member? Even he wouldn’t do that.
He has made a few outlandish claims but has still ended up getting much of what he wanted. Classic negotiating technique. Go in with a huge demand and get offered something which looks smaller but which is really what you wanted in the first place. It makes the other party feel like they have had a little victory but you have still got what you want.
I am no admirer of the man but his more vociferous opponents make the mistake of underestimating him, out of a sense of distaste and a misplaced sense of their own superiority which ends up clouding their judgement.
January 23, 2026 at 16:30 #1751343He wants Greenland CAS … He isn’t getting it , CAS how can under estimate a man who declares everything he does a success , who one minute demands a Nobel peace prize then states he never wanted one and is happy to go to war , Putin is playing this clown like a fine fiddle , ghis so called board of peace is being given a wide berth by allies , it’s time to smell the coffee …
January 23, 2026 at 16:35 #1751345Putin is certainly more astute than Trump. But he is more astute than Europe’s leaders as well. Which doesn’t make him admirable, of course. I am sure Machiavelli would have admired him.
Trump comes out with a lot of hot air and bluster in press conferences but should be ignored.
January 23, 2026 at 17:24 #1751348You can’t ignore the President of the USA , and to be honest we shouldn’t have to
January 23, 2026 at 19:08 #1751367He’s got exactly what he wanted. It stopped everybody talking about Epstein. Plenty of time to remove anything incriminating now, not that there is anything incriminating of course.
January 23, 2026 at 20:52 #1751375The Clintons must be pleased, then.
January 23, 2026 at 21:54 #1751384I have little doubt that politicians from across the spectrum are up to their necks in it alongside celebrities and other notable people from various fields. There’s a lot of mutual interest in keeping everything firmly swept under the carpet.
January 23, 2026 at 23:09 #1751410Epstein hasn’t gone anywhere , that story has been going years and will continue to rumble on
January 23, 2026 at 23:16 #1751412Disgusting words from Trump. Just because he didn’t get his own way with Greenland he has a go at the countries who stood up to him. If a politician had said that here he would be out on arse within half an hour.
The guy needs putting in a nursing home.

From a brilliant businessman:

It amazes me how people still fall for the rightwing narrative.
January 24, 2026 at 07:36 #1751437It amazes me how so many people fall for the idea that a socialist utopia can be created on earth, despite the plethora of historical evidence which shows that it is a dangerous chimera.
But it will be different next time, right?
January 24, 2026 at 07:38 #1751438“I have little doubt that politicians from across the spectrum are up to their necks in it alongside celebrities and other notable people from various fields”.
Yes, including lots of movie stars and rock stars. People still widely admired within popular culture and by fashionable opinion for behaviour that would be condemned if anyone else did the same.
The comeuppance of some of that crowd is long overdue.
January 24, 2026 at 07:52 #1751441People don’t want to be famous for talent now they just want to be famous to be famous , the internet is full of talentless fools selling there souls , I’ve met a number of A list celebrities with work , first and foremost I’ve found most of them to be sociable and communitive , I’ve also met a load of fly by night z listers , I’ve found most of them to be the opposite , I’ve twice had the ” do you know who I am ” … The answer both times was ” no “
January 24, 2026 at 08:14 #1751450Mustn’t forget those lovely people in the British political establishment.
January 24, 2026 at 08:36 #1751458“It amazes me how so many people fall for the idea that a socialist utopia can be created on earth”
Show me one person in this thread who has said that.
