Shoppers should not be fooled in to thinking of "value" as the cheapest product.
Punters need to invest more on an Even Money shot to get back the same amount as a 10/1 shot. But the risk is nowhere near the same. Sometimes the amount of risk and potential return makes the Evens a better buy than a 10/1 shot, and sometimes the 10/1 is a better buy than Evens.Yep, that’s what I said Gord, so you are agreeing with me.
Value Is EverythingSeptember 13, 2013 at 00:09 #451056Yes! By Gord I think he’s got it! If (
over time
) I do
not
win the correct percentage of bets at each price – I will
not
make a profit. Or to put it another way… If I do
not
achieve the right strike rate at each price I will
not
have found "
value
"!
Value Is EverythingSeptember 13, 2013 at 00:31 #451057Before handing over the cash a punter does
not
know
if the Evens, 2/1, 7/1 or 10/1 shot will be the best investment (win). So the
"what’s the value in a big priced loser"
? question does not come in to it. He just needs to evaluate/ask which "
risk
" is worth the
potential return
? And knowing the top price 10/1 shot needs to have a better than 9% chance of winning for me to believe it "value" helps me answer the latter question.
Wish I knew you had tipped The Lark to win Gord. Wouldn’t have backed Sea Of Approval had I known. Where was this analysis before the race? I didn’t see it anywhere. You mean to say Gordie Boy thought The Lark should’ve been odds-on, over 50% chance of winning, that’s over 17% better than the 2/1 (33%) offered!!! Best I’ve ever managed is 12%. Yet you kept it to yourself! Why didn’t you tell your legions of fans about this exceptional value bet Gord? Wish you hadn’t left it until
after
the race.
Value Is EverythingSeptember 13, 2013 at 00:38 #451058I am doing very well over the years by "trying to get these sort beat", thanks very much Gordie Boy. Unlike all the "
no
value hunters" out there.
Value Is EverythingSeptember 13, 2013 at 07:19 #451067If someone does not like Lidl beans then they are not "value". It’s pointless buying something you don’t want to eat, it’s just throwing money away.
If I did not have "multiple bets" I would not have backed Auroras Encore @ 119/1, Declaration Of War 16/1, Aquilonius 43/1 etc etc. My multiple bets pay off over time Gordie Boy, unlike your each way ante-post bets. Despite me "throw(ing) money away" on my multiple bets – my ROI is considerably better than yours.
You have mutiple bets Ginge because you lack the courage of your convictions,’Real’ gamblers like me nail our colours and stand firm,’Clever’ gamblers know how to Lay a horse and ‘Cleverer’ gamblers still will Arb where nescessary, just like I did with ‘My Tent or yours’.Your ROI isn’t anywhere near mine as you couldn’t lay an egg never mind a horse.I try to include Lays in running on my thread and those I put up have a 100% strike rate…….Thats a 100% strike rate Ginge……..Put that in your Fat Ginger Pipe and smoke it as you look in the dictionary for the Meaning of ‘The Ante-Post King’ and ‘King of Foresight’ whos’s Ante-Post record is 2nd to absolutely No-one! Your Ante-Post record is like a Cracked 7" vinyl with the needle stuck!
September 13, 2013 at 07:45 #451068Aah nothing like a GT and TAPK bitch fight Two things though I will guarantee Tapk firstly that your 100% lay strike rate won’t and can’t remain and secondly that Ginger most likely has the last 7 generations of breeding on both male and female lines for Jesus!
September 13, 2013 at 08:32 #4510729 times out of 10 you could be preaching the 10/1 is value and they all lose.
My other piece of advice, Copperfield, said Mr. Micawber. Annual income twenty pounds, annual expenditure nineteen nineteen six, result happiness. Annual income twenty pounds, annual expenditure twenty pounds ought and six, result misery. The blossom is blighted, the leaf is withered, the god of day goes down upon the dreary scene, and, in short, you are for ever floored. As I am!
Wrong 9 times out of 10 neither happy nor miserable Mr Micawber; wrong 8 times out of 10 unbridled happiness
These blighted, withered and dreary hills have been cleared of Wolves but the Kingfishers still dart hither and yon, bless ’em

September 14, 2013 at 01:02 #451173You have mutiple bets Ginge because you lack the courage of your convictions,’Real’ gamblers like me nail our colours and stand firm,’Clever’ gamblers know how to Lay a horse and ‘Cleverer’ gamblers still will Arb where nescessary, just like I did with ‘My Tent or yours’.Your ROI isn’t anywhere near mine as you couldn’t lay an egg never mind a horse.I try to include Lays in running on my thread and those I put up have a 100% strike rate…….Thats a 100% strike rate Ginge……..Put that in your Fat Ginger Pipe and smoke it as you look in the dictionary for the Meaning of ‘The Ante-Post King’ and ‘King of Foresight’ whos’s Ante-Post record is 2nd to absolutely No-one! Your Ante-Post record is like a Cracked 7" vinyl with the needle stuck!
Your recent "ante-post record" isn’t even 2nd Gord. Steve Caution and Darren just two with (imo) a better record than you. They just don’t have the bravado or go on about their past wins in quite the same way. Am afraid it seems someone is living on past reputation.
Do the "lays" have stakes to them in your thread Gordie? No. Am afraid as is so often the case, your bravado is betrayed by the fact you do not posess enough confidence to actually let "lays" count towards your p/l. Shame with those few lays you’ve claimed having a 100% strike rate.
You do not have the "courage" to bet win only Gord.
You lack the knowledge of maths to realise it is best to bet win only on the vast majority of Ante-post bets!
Your £50 each way @ 20/1 wins £1000 for the win part and for 1/5th each way £200. Equivalent of 4/1 for the place. A total of +£1200 if it wins. But only +£150 profit (200 – 50 of the win bet) if it places 2nd or 3rd. So +£150 for your total stake of £100. As you Gord like to remind me of all the multiple bets that don’t win when I have a race winner – let’s include your whole stake and count the winnings as getting paid 6/4. And even then you often back two horses each way for one race! And with a good chance of losing the lot without even a run for your money if it’s injured/does not take part. I’ve heard you say before now Gord that you wouldn’t take less than… Was it 6/1?… for an ante-post bet. So why take 4/1 (or 6/4 if counting the whole stake) for the place? Place bets are little more than savers.
Surely it is much better to bet win only? You could choose to add the two 50’s together for £100 win only, winning £2000 profit on a winner. 66% more winnings for the same stake, without the 4/1 place. Or (imo) an even better value bet is 90% of your original stake £90 @ 20/1 for a profit of £1800 which is 50% more than your £1200… With the bonus of not losing as much if failing to reach day of race. You can then lay the horse back as your saver, or alternatively let it ride. But if you lack the "courage of your convictions" Gord, if you can’t take a near miss… by all means "throw money away". But before you do, I suggest you add up all those non-runners at place odds of 2/1, 3/1, 4/1 etc that you’ve lost over the years without even getting a run for your money – when horses don’t make it to the race.
I remind you Gordie, when you backed Dawn Approach for the 2000 Guineas each way, you also backed Cristoforo Colombo each way. So you do a very similar thing to me. One main bet and one saver bet or two main bets and two savers. Gordie Boy does "multiples".
