Another bad day at Sedgefield today. Troodos Jet and Best Horse both fell at the 5th fence in the 4.30 and were fatally injured and Provost was also fatally injured when falling at the 4th hurdle in the 5 o’clock race. RIP.
June 13, 2011 at 19:09 #360549Awful! When are they going to do something about that course? Surely there must be an inquiry after what as happened today?
R.I.P
June 13, 2011 at 19:49 #360555Terrible news … RIP you three …
June 13, 2011 at 20:33 #360559Very sad when we lose any horse, three in a day at one venue is very unfortunate. I had a soft spot for old Troodos Jet, he really was a lovely looking horse, didn’t have the ability to go with it, but he won his races, and always tried hard, poor old boy, RIP (and the other two).
June 14, 2011 at 10:47 #360614It wasn’t anything to do with the course, findsara. All the horses took off far too early for the jumps. Troodos Jet and Best Horse both came down on the fence and there was no way they could have stood up. Provost was too early and smashed through the hurdle, falling onto his knees.
Doesn’t make it easier to bear I know, but it wasn’t a fault in the course that caused these fatalities.
Remember them for the memories they gave us. RIP.

Yes, in this instance it was nothing to do with the course. Both Troodos Jet and Best Horse took off too early with tragic results, but I don’t believe the course at Sedgefield wasn’t to blame for this; the results would have been the same on any other jumps course.
By the way, according to AnimalAid’s figures Sedgefield in on a par with Cheltenham for fatalities. And Cheltenham is way ahead of Aintree, despite AnimalAid’s trumpet blowing.
As an animal lover I would have been with you in marching those drunken louts into a horsebox, cra_mck. Anyone who thinks such incidents/scenes are funny sicken me. I can only hope they drove (fatally) into a wall on their drunken way home. We don’t need their kind at race meetings.
Troodos Jet, Best Horse and Provost – RIP.
