Two who’ve caught my eye for the Triumph are Abbysial & Plinth. Although Mullins suggested that Abbysial may take different route. Plinth won a very hot maiden beating the well touted Mullins hot-pot Ivan Grozny. Both can be backed @ 25/1 & larger on the exchanges

What has Mullins said about Abbysial? Other than Analifet his other juvenile winners have looked more potential chasers than Triumph Hurdle winners. This one also looks as if he would appreciate a softer surface. Given it is mid-January and it is 14/1 the field you would think his ‘team’ would be considerably shorter if they were intended runners/seriously fancied?

Yes, that’s correct. He quoted that Abbysial was very much a chaser in the making but he felt he would pay his way over hurdles on soft/heavy ground in the short term & may be stepped up in trip.

I think Ivan Grozny was the stables main hope for the Triumph & may still be?, although i saw nothing to suggest he would turn the tables on Plinth. Should they lock horns again!

Thanks, I have been looking forward to seeing Long Dog but no entries and it is unlike Mullins to keep the cork in the bottle for so long. I can only assume something is amiss.

Thoughts on Goodwood Mirage? How far and how easily would he have won by were it not for the mistakes at the last two flights?

Beaten a mile if he jumps like that at Cheltenham. Would be better at Aintree

    Good evening guys,

Must admit i’m warming to Goodwood Mirage. I agree if he jumps like his last run he’ll have no chance in the triumph. However, he ran too free and made mistakes at the last two hurdles when jumped in to. Jonjo was surprised at how fresh he was and stated he jumped well at home. He’s going for the Adonis at Kempton and if he wins that would be near favourite for the race. I’m prepared to give him another race to prove his worth and am tempted by the 25/1.

Very difficult to condemn any fancy at the moment. For what it’s worth I think Goodwood Mirage might have won five lengths on the bridle under a different jockey in which case he would already be vying for favouritism. It appears to be a McCoy trait to make things look a good deal more deal difficult than they actually are. Of course he will be on board again so you will be gambling on whether he will make a better fist of things next time. The horse certainly showed a reasonable level of ability and a decent attitude.

After Goodwood Mirage’s run on Saturday i think Jonjo can give up on him for the triumph. Thought McCoy gave him a strange ride though, out the back, ran free and not jump well. Tactics similar to Jezki on Sunday :?

Had another look and may plump for Plinth. After Ivan Grozny’s performance the other day the form looks quite strong. Aidan’s horses normally come on for the run so with likely improvement 20/1 looks tasty!

I was with you on Plinth, one word of caution is the connections are playing down his chances massively saying Ivan G will improve far more for the run.
Oh, hang on, he’s owned by McManus…..do I believe a word of that ??

La Rocher at 14s Skybet special today only must be one to have onside after his two romps so far in top trials. He may not be as ground dependent as many assume.

That was a very strange run from Goodwood Mirage and ride as well at the weekend. Will JJ Oneill still aim for the Triumph now? After all, he convinced the owners to shell out a fortune for the horse as he said it would win the triumph? Not looking such a good investment now.

The curse of the ante-post market strikes again. That was about as bad as it gets from Ivan Grozny. You wouldn’t be in any rush to take 50/1 now. Didn’t even have the excuse of bungling every flight like Plinth.

Certainly blows a hole in the Irish form; Guitar Pete is admirable, but seems well-held

Interesting to see the money coming for Adriana Des Mottes. Did suspect it was only a matter of time after Ivan Grozny bombed. Looks to have a relatively straightforward task at Clonmel this week although I would be pretty hopeful she would be better on a faster surface. 25/1 currently only available with William Hill.

The more you look through the form everything points to Royal Irish Hussar. Ignore the run at Donny lto; was having his third run inside six weeks and never travelled.
