Drone was in nappy’s in 1901.
I don’t need the use of internet Homer, just a quick flick through my 1902 Somerset year book would tell me the answer was 630…..
Trescothick hit 57 of them.!!Blackbeard to conquer the World
April 28, 2015 at 08:44 #924365Thank you Homer, a black day for we Tykes, not what Drone needed on his return from serving Queen and Country in the Boer War
Here’s an easy one Nathan
Of which Somerset cricketer was it written
“the greatest batsman Somerset has ever produced”
“the start of his career was so sensational that any novelist attributing it to his hero would have discredited the book”
“…surely a record for a regular opening batsman”
April 28, 2015 at 12:14 #925358I think that’s correct. I didn’t really know the answer myself but knew it was 600+. Just looked it up and it is spot on. In fact it says it was Yorkshire’s only defeat in another Championship winning season. Cheers Drone.
April 28, 2015 at 12:32 #925423Hell fire I do know this, just can’t think of his name
It’s the one who I think played between the wars. From the quote, regarding the start of his career, I think he scored a really quick hundred on his debut and was known as a big hitter throughout his career (probably pretty modest if he played nowadays).
I’m going to have to look this up as it will bug me all afternoon, so I’ll leave this for Nathan
April 28, 2015 at 15:01 #926292I’ve not heard or read those quotes before.
Knowing the list of century makers for Somerset off the top of my head the only feasible answer would be Harold Gimblett.Blackbeard to conquer the World
April 28, 2015 at 18:34 #927228Harold Gimblett it is
The last quote in full is “hit 265 sixes, surely a record for an opening batsman”
I once briefly worked with a distant relation, one Keith Gimblett, a broad scouser rather bizarrely, who didn’t know much about Harold though was aware he was a Somerset cricketing ‘legend’
Had an unfortunate and sad post-cricket life: reminiscent of the problems Marcus Trescothick had/has
April 29, 2015 at 11:39 #929517And dual international Albert Trott who played for both England and Australia. Now that is Schizo. One minute you want to play for Australia the next England. Sadly he shot himself after his career ended.

What horse won the Grand National and was then placed 44 years later?
Which horse was the first US Triple Crown hopeful to fail to finish in the Belmont?
And what’s the link between the two answers?

As no one has got the link I’ll give the answer and then Himself can set the next question. The link is parcel delivery services. Royal Mail is self-explanatory and Big Brown was named after UPS
September 12, 2015 at 05:46 #1203282Which horse won the Epsom Derby two years in a row?
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
