Here are the 2023 TRF Award winners – well done all!

The big two awards go to….

TRF Poster of the Year – APRACING wins from Nathan and Sporting Sam who are honourable jt seconds.

TRF Thread of the year – ‘Make Forum Memes Just For Fun’ wins from the highly popular ‘The Tree’.

And here are the rest of the 2023 winners…

Ride of the Year – RYAN MOORE on Auguste Rodin in the Breeders Cup wins from Derek Fox in second place.

Villain of the Year – highly competitive this year but JONNY CLAYTON wins it for his abuse of a horse in his care.

Commentator of the Year – another TRF virtual trophy for RICHARD HOILES with Stewart Machin runner up – the pair well clear.

Hero of the Year – the tear-jerking scenes at the Breeders Cup meant CODY DORNAN was a deserving winner. Aintree public foiling the antis were a good second.

Journalist of the Year KEVIN BLAKE won comfortably from Lydia Hislop in second.

Racecourse of the Year CHELTENHAM won again, this time York in second and Plumpton best of the smaller tracks in third.

Owner of the Year A tie in this category between RPRACING (owners Big Evs) and JP McMANUS .

One to Watch in 2024 The one you all (well the majority…) want to watch in 2024 is CONSTITUTION HILL – surprise here as City Of Troy didn’t make the top three).

Broadcaster of the Year A closely fought contest between Hayley Moore and the Mute Button which HAYLEY MOORE edged by a single vote. Adele Mulrennan a good third. Not a great showing by the male broadcasters with not a single one even nominated, come on lads time to up your game.

Jumps Trainer of the Year They might be sweeping all before them but the Irish trainers couldn’t match our own PAUL NICHOLLS as the master of Ditcheat wins this category once again.

Flat Trainer of the Year No contest here as AIDAN O’BRIEN wins it yet again. With the ammunition he had in his two year old ranks he must be long odds on for our 2024 title.

Jumps Jockey of the Year Harry Cobden a well-deserving winner of this one by a clear margin.

Jumps Horse of the Year Pretty much a landslide here for CONSTITUTION HILL who wins this as easily as he’s been winning his races – the popular stayer Kitty’s Light was runner up.

Flat Horse of the Year This one goes abroad to joint-winners ACE IMPACT and EQUINOX.

Flat Jockey of the Year It looked a close race for a bit but RYAN MOORE saw a gap on the inside and scooted clear in the home straight to win it from Billy Loughnane who was a slight turn up for the books but his talent clearly recognised here.

Thanks for voting everyone – I’ll endeavour to let as many of the winners know they’ve received the ultimate accolade!!!

Many congratulations to Alan and also to Nathan (and all who contribute to it) for his hilarious winning thread.

Tbh, only the two “in-house” awards really interest me, but I was pleased to see on X (formerly Twitter) positive use being made of the “Mute Button” vote to possibly open a few media eyes to the IMO fact that, with a few honourable exceptions (all female, btw), standards aren’t what they might be in racing broadcasting in the eyes of many here.

The Mute Button vote option thus acts as a bar any decent broadcaster should be seeking to easily surpass.

Many thanks to admin for staging the poll, which I think was conducted with good humour.

Finally, the last mention surely has to return to Alan, a Classic winner of TRF Poster Of The Year if ever there was one, and one for the many racing/betting purists here.

I won’t reprise the interview Simon Nott did with Alan for a third time, but it’s easily found in two places on the forum and I recommend it.

You will certainly learn more from it than you will watching ITV Racing this afternoon.

Happy New Year to one and all.

    ‘Stingos all round”.

Would that be Samuel Smith’s Yorkshire Singo, RTB? I have a bottle of it lined up for later this evening.

    RTB..Stingos
They bring back memories of Friday Nights down at The Royal Standard Blackhorse Lane E.17 watching comedian Mike Reid perform.
My friend and I would get a Stingo each on the way in and because they were so vile (but cheap) we just sipped it slowly and made it last all evening. We did move up market to a Barley Wine occasionally but now the thought of either of them makes me feel ill..lol Thanks for that random memory..Jac

Thank you for that. No wonder he made it big on The Comedians after his Royal Standard days he could deliver a joke and have you in stitches even before the punchline. None can compare these days IMO. Jac :rose:

I wouldn’t dream of second-guessing your age Triptych but I guess that would have been Watneys Stingo brewed in London, which is the lethal brew of that name I recall from the ’70s and ’80s :-)

Despite living just up the road from Sam Smiths brewery I wasn’t aware of their version so I guess it’s a relatively new introduction or perhaps reintroduction. I must try it…possibly

This (recent) article on Watneys Stingo is interesting, and it mentions the takeover by them of a ‘Yorkshire Stingo Brewery’ in 1907.
