Any of the forums many National Hunt aficionado’s willing to put up a horse or two or as many as you like, to follow for the forthcoming "real" jumps season?
One stipulation, the horse(s) cannot be trained by Nicholls, King, Pipe, Henderson, O’Neill, Hobbs or Willie Mullins.
If there is sufficient interest I’ll compile the list and track them for the season and see how we do, starting from Chepstow in October.
* I’ll update the list here as they are posted up, keep ’em coming.

Whatafriend … fistSeptember 16, 2009 at 17:23 #249062A pair that came up on my radar last season:
Turbo Island (James Ewart) – won a couple of heavy ground bumpers at Ayr early in 2009 showing bags of stamina. He’s being aimed at novice hurdles from 2m 4f upwards.
Camden George (Sue Smith) – consistent sort who won his novice chase at Kelso toward the end of last term and should make a mark in handicaps. I suspect he’ll prove best at middle distances.

September 16, 2009 at 17:33 #249064An Siorrac – Enda Bolger
– Hunter chaser who won both his point to points and his only run under rules by 30 lengths at Fairyhouse in Feburary. Highly regarded and being aimed at the Christies.
Best Actor – Carl Llewellyn
– Only 1 run over fences where he beat West End Rocker, Valley Ride and Shining Gale effortlessly (18 lengths back to the second). Big horse built for chasing looks to have loads of potential.
Bouggler – E Lavelle
– Made massive progress last season, finising off with a really good run at Punchestown behind Mikael D’Haguenet and Cousin Vinny. Staying hurdling this season. Still only 4 with just 3 runs over hurdles to his name, should be plenty more to come.
September 16, 2009 at 18:42 #249071I would imagine Best Actor will race for Warren Greatex who I think has taken over the Denmark string?
Interesting horse could be Riguez Dancer bought at the Donny sales by Ferdy Murphy and will presumably go novice chasing.
Also, the latest in a long line of home breds for the Bowes is recent bumper winner Lucy Stone,a half sister to Sweet Kiln & Earth Magic.
Should win another bumper before going hurdling.September 16, 2009 at 18:46 #249075Pandorama – Noel Meade
– According to the p2p enthusiasts, this was one of the most impressive winners of a point that they’d ever seen. Lived up to that reputation when bolting up in two bumpers and two hurdles before having his bubble burst by Mikael D’Haguenet at Navan. He was trying to give the Mullins horse 4lbs that day and he was lame after the race. He returned in the Deloitte where he was fortunate to beat Cousin Vinny. He looks a real staying chaser in the making and I’d expect to see him as a major fancy for the Drinmore in early December.
Sweeps Hill – John Kiely
– Impressive bumper winner at Leopardstown over Christmas. Didn’t go to Cheltenham but chased home Dunguib at Punchestown. Should pick up a few decent novice hurdles over the course of the season. Would be no surprise if he made up into a contender for the Supreme Novices.
Drunken Sailor – Paul Flynn
– Useful juvenille hurdler last year. Chased home the Grade 1 winning Tharawaat at Fairyhouse and then ran respectably in the big juvenille hurdle on Stephens Day at Leopardstown. Has shown huge improvement on the flat over the summer going up 15lbs in the ratings. If he shows the same improvement over hurdles, he could be very well handicapped.
China Rock – Mouse Morris
– Finished 4th in the Ballymore and then filled the same position on ground he hated at Punchestown. Set to go over fences but he needs decent ground to be seen to best effect.
Ebadiyan – Oliver Brady
– Was tanking along in the Triumph Hurdle when he cocked his jaw and ran out at the second last. Given the way he stays, he would definitely have been involved in the finish. The Hattons Grace could be an early season target.
September 16, 2009 at 22:04 #249101Sam Adams (Paul Nolan) made a good impression on me at Punchestown, when edged out by The Midnight Club. Will surely make a nice staying novice chaser if he goes that way.
Venalmar (Mouse Morris) has the potential to go right to the top over fences, provided he is recovered from the knock that kept him out last season.
September 16, 2009 at 22:52 #249110Pretty sure i have a few in my racecards from last season which i need to look through again.
Love the October and November novice events, lots of potential quality and you can say that you saw it first.
September 16, 2009 at 23:21 #249118That Kauto Star is pretty useful i think
Watch out for Master Minded too…. You heard it here first
September 16, 2009 at 23:52 #249129Silverburn
is 6 lbs lower than when favourite for the Paddy Power last season. Admittedly, he may have been favourite solely because he was trained by Nicholls and ridden by Walsh. He had recently had pus in his foot when he pulled up in the Racing Post Chase. The run at Cheltenham seemed to indicate an attitude problem. Now trained by Evan Williams.
State Of Play
is on the same handicap mark as when he won the Hennessy three years ago. I think he ought to be aimed at the race again, despite the desire to win the Grand National. This time they ought to give him a prep in something like the Aon before the GN.
My main fancies for the GN are Merigo and Garde Champetre.
Russian Around
won three races at the end of the season, after having a wind operation. Prime age, without many miles on the clock.
September 17, 2009 at 01:36 #249143It wiill come as no surprise from anyone if I nominate Charlie Hall bound CAPPA BLEU as I have been sweet on him since he won at Horseheath in January. Could go right to the top this one.
September 17, 2009 at 01:59 #249148Noble Alan – N Richards assume he will be going novice chasing this year and should be good enough to run up a sequence.
Reve De Sivola – N Williams should make a nice staying hurdler, still has novice status (i think)

This horse is a great big three-mile chaser. He’ll jump a fence next year and wants soft ground. – Jessica HarringtonErm, he’s only run in two 3m chases so far. I’m assuming he is still developing. Unseated rider in a 2m3f race on Sunday, so at least we know the horse is racing this season.
I don’t know enough about NH racing to be able to nominate a novice hurdler or chaser that will run up a sequence of five wins – I’m just naming horses that should win a major (h’cap) chase at a nice price (hopefully) when they meet the right conditions.
September 17, 2009 at 02:39 #249153Quite a few I like such as Cappa Bleu and Pandorama have already been taken (ah well, if I will disappear for half a week…), but I baggsie me
Somersby
from Henrietta Knight’s yard. Nothing that’s going to win you a sackload of
Ten to Follow
points, given her manner of campaigning animals, but I’d like to think he has a decent novice chase or two in him.
The Vicar
from the same yard lost heart after an early mistake in the Jewson, and he hadn’t exactly gone without testing the fencebuilders’ craftmanship in some of his races prior to that, either; but he’ll be one year less stupid this time around (if that’s not too unkind a way of putting it) and could land a decent handicap if picking his feet up better. His best form has been recorded around flatter tracks, which augurs well for further tilts around Haydock, I fancy.

September 17, 2009 at 02:50 #249154I have it on very good authority that The Vicar wont be running on Sundays.
September 17, 2009 at 12:14 #249176Portal’s Toy
– putting up a bit of a dark horse for the staying hurdles this season. The French trained Portal’s Toy generally regarded as a Enghien chasing specialist dropped back to the smaller obstacles at Auteuil when winning the Prix La Barka and chasing home France’s top hurdler Questarabad in the French Champion Hurdle. It’s been mentioned after each of his last two runs by both trainer David Windrif and jockey Nathalie Dessouter that they feel he’d be ideally suited to the English hurdles and the ground we get over here – I expect he’ll take in the Grand-Steeplechase De Enghien again and the Prix D’Automne back at Auteuil over hurdles before heading to the UK for the Cleeve or Rendlesham IMO.

Henry Bromhead’s
Fort George
looks a sure fire star of the future and should be followed.
Kate Walton’s
Nevertika
lost his way after 2 consecutive falls last season. One to keep an eye on, he’s gots bags of ability and if he gets his confidence back will pick up a few races.
Kate sold
Sitting Tennant
the Aintree bumper winner for a nice 6 figure sum. Not bad for a horse who cost 3k. He’s gone to Howard Johnson. There was no fluke to his win and he should be followed over hurdles. Will get further than 2 miles.
Colm Murphy said a long time ago we wouldn’t see the best of
Prince Roco
until he went chasing. He had a bad start against Sizing Europe and fell in his next run. He blew up 3 from home in his latest outing, but manged to run on wll enough to finish 2nd.He seems to have his jumping together and should pick up a few 2m4f plus chases if not aimed too high.
Jonjo has too many to mention but
Sunnyhillboy
is regarded as the junior star in the yard. The handicapper will have got hold of him over hurdles but the plan was always to go chasing. He’s got a touch of class about him, is as tough as they come and has a great future over fences and hopefully someday reach the heights that Exotic Dancer did.
Whatafriend
disappointed at Cheltenham but he’s a very good horse. He is said to have been below par due to cold when he ran which could explain his lacklustre performance. Lovely horse and will win taces without a doubt.
Crack Away Jack
Had to mention him. I expect him to go through his novice campaign unbeaten and win the Arkle. One of the best fencing recruits from hurdling in a decade has chaser written all over him.
Ben DeHaan reckons he got a right steal when he bought
Titus Andronicus
. Horse looks like a machine and should do really well when sent hurdling.
