June 28, 2008 at 15:10 #170551See the Richard Hughes thread, but doesn’t this horse have a tendency to pul himself up in front? I remember at Goodwood last year when he planted himself and refused to go any further on his way to post until the jockey got off his back.
He didn’t stop riding, he was gubbed by a strong stayer at the trip and didn’t have time to respond.
June 28, 2008 at 15:12 #170552You beat me too it, Doyley.
Nothing against the man, but my goodness, that was pitiful. He looked to have had the race sewn up one out. There can no excuses this time. Very poor.

June 28, 2008 at 15:14 #170553Hello,
Completely agree DJ about his tendancy, but once he had him in front going the way he wanted, he was on the primrose path, how on earth could he get caught by a "stayer"…jockey error I am afraid..

June 28, 2008 at 15:33 #170557I think people are being very harsh, can someone tell me what Ted should’ve done?
He got past the field inside the final furlong and didn’t stop riding, so what exactly has he done wrong?
June 28, 2008 at 15:40 #170558Hello Ian,
He was on the best horse in the race…he did have trouble in postioning himself, agreed, but when in front he SHOULD NOT HAVE LOST..

Hi Doyley
I was surprised he got beat as he had the race won but I ask what Ted should’ve done differently – how did his ride lose the horse the race?
Not being awkward just can’t understand the point you’re trying to make mate.
June 28, 2008 at 16:04 #170567Hello Ian,
He should have simply PUSHED the horse out, I am afraid that for a moment he relaxed.. You say what HE should have done , read Timeform on the race….

June 28, 2008 at 16:41 #170577Hello,
There is a suspicion that racing could "be bent", and relevant authorities have looked into it. But to be fair the capability of the said authorities are somewhat limted
But if one is to embark on an investigation of all and sundry, we do not want to witness a heavily backed horse being beaten as we seen today. What I seen today could easily be construed as "throwing the race",
No matter what a trainer may say, a jockey, a handler, a owner, whatever…That final 100 yards looked suspicious, a gasp of breath was taken through out the country, and the….regards,

There are easier ways of doing it than that. Lets be realistic.

Tranquil Ted !

June 28, 2008 at 17:05 #170588What a lot of rubbish Doyley is talking ~ stay off the hard stuff until the evening fella, that”s my advice.
June 28, 2008 at 17:06 #170589Hello Bulwark,
You are missing the basic facts of deception, possibly a word called Fraud,(not that I am saying that the indivuduals are engaged in such activity), of course your series of events looks like " bad luck" and why "didn’t he do that", but the end result was a hefty monetary result to certain people that under normal or reasonable circumstances could not have happened unless contrived.

June 28, 2008 at 17:12 #170594IMO theres nothing he could have done, hughes was just brilliant on lion sands on the day. And tranquil tiger idled. Its that simple.
I personally would love Steve Drowne to get promoted to Khallid abdulla’s first string jock as he’s better than durcan IMO. But to be fair to Durcan he has done nothing wrong today. He is just one of those unspectacular jockeys who ahs worked hard to get where he is but gets a lot of stick when he gets turned over on one.
There is no way IMO that Durcan could have saved that race today.
June 28, 2008 at 17:18 #170596Hello Bulwark and every body else,
OK I am now being bludgeoned into believing that the Jockey has no responsibity..and because, "Lion Sands" was the better horse,
OK I accept what you all say.. but please watch the race again, and watch a certain jockey wait to be beat..

doyley

Imo, the only thing Ted Durcan could have done differently was not to hit the front too soon.
Even Richard Hughes admitted after the race that Lion Sands had given his all and was going nowhere until Tranquil Tiger idled in the lead. - AuthorPosts
