Looks like another cracking day of banded racing at Towcester tomorrow with over 80 animals declared to slog through the mud and over obstacles, slowly chasing about 34k in prize money with over 40 jockeys most of whose names are probably unknown to their postman let alone to the average punter, chasing about another 10k in riding fees.
The star of tomorrow’s ‘action’ is probably Love Of Tara, a rarity among tomorrow’s declarations both for having won before and/or having a rating in 3 figures, one of only a handful of either in fact, her spectacular 25% strike rate mainly due to her having only had 4 runs in her seven years.
Love Of Tara is such a stand out in tomorrow’s races with fields carrying an average rating of about 80, she is probably alone worth the admission price of nothing to make the effort to stand in a muddy puddle to witness events unfolding at a snail’s pace.
Let’s hope the weather doesn’t scupper this planned day of sporting excellence, especially as there’s no AW action to rescue things tomorrow.
November 21, 2009 at 21:24 #259862Still sounds a lot better than your average flat racing meeting
November 21, 2009 at 21:31 #259865Can we expect this for the rest of the season, simon?
November 21, 2009 at 21:48 #259871I hope the quality gets better too GH but even if it doesn’t, I promise not to knock the rubbish even half as often as the unbalanced AW knockers, that’s a fact.
November 21, 2009 at 21:58 #259874You do realise that you’re starting to look somewhat ‘prissy’, don’t you?
November 21, 2009 at 22:13 #259879No, but I look forward to similar posts from you in response to the usual suspects and their regular rubbishing of anything non-NH, seeing as this forum advertises itself as balanced.

Isn’t it free to get in at Towcester?
If so, it will be well worth the admission pice
November 23, 2009 at 11:21 #260113Another splendid day at Northamptonshire’s Perpetual Staircase, with four (to varying degrees) progressive winners including a staying chaser in Master Overseer whom I’d certainly like to see line up in a satellite / provincial National (Kent, Sussex, Lincolnshire, etc.) in deep going next time.
Five winners came from the first three in the betting, so the races were hardly unfathomable; there was a 17-runner handicap; and most importantly of all everything appears to have come home safe and sound.
Can’t see what’s not to like there myself!

November 23, 2009 at 13:38 #260144I know, poor thing! Are you still involved with her in any capacity? I thought she’d pinched it turning in, but a career-low mark and the stands’ rail just told for Mr Ironman in the end.
Mind, this is her time of year, and she can hardly be marched far up the handicap for being done on the line by a 67-rated rival. I think there’s still a race in her this winter.

November 23, 2009 at 13:50 #260147…apart from the error at the first downhill fence on the final circuit, I’d agree it was a tidy, enterprising ride by the oft-maligned Grant. What do you think happened at that obstacle? It seemed like a bit of a difference of opinion ‘twixt horse and rider, but it was also one of several really good sits on the afternoon (see also Paddy Merrigan on Stockton Flyer and Matt Crawley on Cornelia).

November 23, 2009 at 18:40 #260181I shall be going to Towcester this Saturday and cannot wait.
Bit different from seeing Kauto at my local but i do love the bottom end stuff.
November 23, 2009 at 19:14 #260192It was a good days racing at Towcester with the home run making its usual contribution.
I had mixed feelings on Mr Ironman’s win – being objective it was a shame to see Miss Alderbrook done on the line but on the other had I had a wee investment on the winner so wasn’t too distraught.
As Jeremy pointed out there were some very good Velcro rides (and yes they all came home safely).
The big downer of the afternoon was the Jekyll and Hyde weather – literally monsoon conditions one minute then sunshine immediately afterwards. The weather did result in a very small crowd – I will be interested to see the figures as I have a feeling they may be the smallest this year.
Neil – enjoy your day on Saturday, have not seen the forecast yet but if it is wet bring your waterproofs, there ain’t that much shelter. I am tempted to go to Towcester rather than Newbury on Saturday, it will be much more comfortable crowd wise.
November 23, 2009 at 19:16 #260193Sure you’ll have a top afternoon, Neil! I will be back oop north celebrating my birthday with immediate family, so will have to give that meeting a miss. It actually looks a slightly better card that yesterday’s at this early stage, though – certainly the novices’ chase could be alright if the declarations hold up entirely.
