What’s happenin’?
Bit confused. Got a few ideas of my own, but I’d like to hear from others, as I’m not on an even keel.July 7, 2010 at 12:56 #305203I was at the race on Monday near Stavelot, 80 yards before the Col de Stockeu and less than a kilometre before all these accidents. The road was "a bit soapy" after the rain during the race after several hot days on sandy, less used roads.
Then there was armistice for the rest of the race – why not yesterday before the pavé-passage, too?
Probably, they (the Saxo-Bank-team) intended to distance Contador and Armstrong. But they shot themselves.
July 7, 2010 at 13:05 #305205A few of them had crashes again yesterday.
The cobble roads of Belgium look a nightmare to ride on.

The roads where most of the Tour is raced on in Belgium and France are almost the same – coarse-grained asphalt, which is typical for "departemental"-roads. These are roads that are under local government and carry mostly local (rural) traffic.
"cobble roads" are very seldom today. At the Paris-Roubaix-Race these passages are protected and preserved. The same may be valid for pavé-passages of the Tour des Flandres.

Sky are not just sponsoring the road cyling team, but professional British cycling in general. It is the reward for past success of the BCF.

And the IOC are rewarding them by giving them as few Cycling events as possible.

I’m still somewhat puzzled as to Sky’s motives – it can’t just be to help British cycling improve even more.
July 10, 2010 at 11:56 #305814They’ll be a dry run for London 2012 in a few weeks in India. Let’s see how much publicity Sky get out of that – and on the BBC too!
