I just love this event!
And I also love the free time air coverage in ITV. Sadly it looks like it will terminate this year, which will be gutting!
The presentation team, led by Gary Imlach, produce a daily highlights program which is IMO the best sports show on TV. You don’t just get sports reporting, you get fantastic shots of the local scenery, together with interesting diversions into a wider history, delivered by someone with a nicely sardonic sense of humour, not the usual self-serving bantz of would-be personalities.
I’m hoping that the competition between Pogacar and Vingegard continues right through to the last Alpine stage – these guys are my idea of modern sporting heroes!July 7, 2025 at 20:41 #1735685My partner watches it for the scenery. We also like watching the very end because we look out for the MacDonalds that we used to go to the few times that we’ve been to Paris. I didn’t realise it wasn’t going to be on ITV next year.
July 7, 2025 at 21:49 #1735687Yes it’s a shame that ITV will be losing it, it’s such a well produced show, both live and the highlights, and Imlach has to be one of the best presenters out there.
It’s a fascinating sport and the Tour in particular is full of interesting history, plenty of books out there about it including some by members of the ITV team.
I think a cycling nut and someone who watches for the scenery could probably sit together on the sofa and enjoy it just as much as each other. And it’s the best three week advert the French tourist board could hope for.
Just don’t ask me for any betting tips
July 8, 2025 at 06:17 #1735727I watched the first couple stages on TNT and it was ok. Didn’t maybe have the same colour in terms of the detail around the scenic elements (although that was still present) but commentators were alright and very knowledgable.
I agree it is a fantastic event, I look forward to it more and more each year.
On the topic of books, last year they had a focus piece on the Italian cyclist Gino Bartali so I bought the book on his life story, a great read.July 8, 2025 at 16:17 #1735739The Tour is always fascinating; colour, scenery, excitement, athleticism, speed, endurance, intrigue, strategy. ITV coverage is excellent; the next best thing to actually being on the continent
July 8, 2025 at 19:35 #1735750My ex cycled up one of the mountain bits a few years ago but the mate he travelled over with as his back up forgot to take his drink and sandwiches to the top of the mountain. It put quite a strain on their friendship. I’ve got a book about cycling the route which I still haven’t read; Tim Moore’s French Revolutions. I enjoyed his book about walking the Camino.
July 8, 2025 at 19:52 #1735752Another sensationally televisual event today!
The two heroes fighting it out amid a fantastic cinematic finish!
Long may this brilliant event continue!July 9, 2025 at 16:08 #1735788Hoping Pogacar doesn’t run away with it
July 22, 2025 at 19:53 #1736596Fantastic sporting theatre on Mont Ventoux!
Vingegarde’s team gave it their best shot but Pogacar just couldn’t be shaken off.
Great to see Oscar Only hanging in for a great result!July 25, 2025 at 20:48 #1736706Disappointed with Vingegarde today.
He didn’t appear to want to win the stage, in case he allowed Pogacar to win it. - AuthorPosts
