I personally prefer starting the flat after the Guineas; otherwise there’s too much guesswork involved with the 3 year olds. I think Irish Guineas weekend would be the ideal start date (all Derby trials completed).
April 22, 2022 at 05:41 #1595143That’s a bit like starting the jumps competition after the Hennessey and Betfair Chase has been run, only worse. Using last season as an example, after A Plus Tard’s demolition job in the Betfair Chase everyone would then likely put him in whereas as it stands opinions would’ve been more divided looking at previous runs.
If something demolishes the field in the 1000 guineas and likewise in the 2000 guineas that isn’t Native Trial the cats are out of the bag as it were. And depending on the start dates we would also have the Lockinge being run already and the French Classics too so more Group 1 points potentially lost and further cats out of bags.From my point of view I would hope the late start is a one off and the Tote aren’t trying to fix what isn’t broken. I like the challenge of picking the right horses before they run not after.

)
and good luck when the flat TTTF eventually starts
April 22, 2022 at 12:39 #1595170First of all may I add my thanks to BigG for his weekly updates.
I have a suspicion that a latter start to the Flat Season Competition
as happened before and will mean that there will not be a Royal Ascot
Competition. The Flat has never been as popular as the Jumps and a latter
start is a way of trying to attract more entrants is my view.I have sent off for a new pin and have high hopes that I can do better
than in the past.Thanks once again
April 23, 2022 at 13:54 #1595376Best of luck John, I hope your new pin does the trick
April 26, 2022 at 14:02 #1595665FYI, I received some feedback from Tote. It looks like the flat 10 to follow later start is going to be a permanent fixture. They have taken the view that not enough people take part because they don’t know enough to commit as early in the season as it had been running before. By changing it to later, they are hoping it will get more people entering.
April 26, 2022 at 18:33 #1595707Thanks for that Mike, I can kind of see where they are coming from, but
I think I’d rather have the 1st 2 classics in the competition. I’ll
keep my eyes peeled for it starting up
