How many lengths does one point equal, and does this vary with distance ?
Over 6 furlongs, for example, how many lengths inferior is a horse rated 64 to one rated 67 ?

April 3, 2014 at 16:46 #474195In beyers book you can work out the cost of a length like this
Six furlong time of 1:12 3’5s= 363 fifths 1 fifth of a second is
1/363 = .28% of the entire race you can move the decimal point so a
lenght @ six furlongs would be worth 2.8 but this could vary from
course to course slightly as the std time for each course is
different do the same for all the distances and you could end up
with something like the following:-
5f =3.5
6f = 2.8
7f = 2.3
1mile = 2
so on and so forth
hope this helps

April 4, 2014 at 06:26 #474303I assume that Topspeed uses the RP standard lbs per length as used when you input ratings using the My Ratings feature
You can see this figure for any trip by looking at a race result and clicking on Rate Race (assuming you’re a subscriber)
When I’m thinking abo the relative merits though I tend to stick to pounds and not convert it to anything else……..so I’d just think the horse rated 64 is 3lb inferior to one rated 67………and I wouldn’t see the need to convert that into anything else, be it lengths or time.
I guess it’s like in human athletics when you say Usain Bolt’s PB is .2 seconds faster than Joe Bloggs…….you don’t bother converting that into metres and centimetres

I suspected the Topspeed ratings would mirror the OR but wanted to be sure.
