Always like to have something going over the big obstacles at Aintree. In this race I’ve gone for my selections in Pat’s Ante Post race
Kylemore Lough win @ 20-1
Sizing Tennessee win @ 16-1
You've got to accentuate the positive.
Eliminate the negative.
Latch on to the affirmative.
Don't mess with mister in between.April 4, 2018 at 14:15 #1349071KL was pulled up in Fairyhouse on Monday, surely there’s no chance he runs in this.
I’ve added Highland Lodge e/w at 25s this morning.
Softer side of ground is fine, going for the race & proven over both the course/fences. Getting on a bit now which is the worry but his run in the Becher was a cracker and think he’s more of a 16-18s chance.April 4, 2018 at 15:24 #1349085If anyone is considering Art Mauresque just now, he’s still in all firms lists, but has been moved to the bottom of the page on The Exchange.
April 5, 2018 at 00:34 #1349124Art Mauresque confirmed as ouut, while Sametegal, also scratched.
Don’t like breaking the bad news on here for one that I know people on here are interested in, but with Sametegal still in most firms lists, thought it worth a mention.
April 5, 2018 at 18:23 #1349167With Go Conquer confirmed as heading here, I’m surprised that the 25’s is holding. Very much worth considering that.
April 5, 2018 at 22:38 #1349181Go Conquer has a stone more than last year which is reflected in the price. Wont be easy to win off.
April 6, 2018 at 11:11 #1349204Master Dee isn’t going.
April 7, 2018 at 18:22 #1349387Theatre Territory 12s added to my earler Ballyalton 16s. Hope they run now.
April 7, 2018 at 19:07 #1349389Strangely, according to the Racing Post website, Harry Cobden is booked to ride Art Mauresque in this. I assume this is an error given the news a couple of days ago but I just thought it worth sharing.
April 10, 2018 at 00:41 #1349595Still in there Krypton, you have to have a quid on that now……..just in case.
April 10, 2018 at 01:23 #1349598Well spotted TKF……..was hoping he would partner one of tizzards in this, the hounds may be off the scent at the moment,HC has cracking strike rate for both stables, interested to see who he rides for.
April 10, 2018 at 13:02 #1349643On Shanahan’s Turn 40/1 in this race bob if given the go ahead can run big race here
April 10, 2018 at 17:21 #1349660Sadly I was too slow to react to my Art Maureseque discovery (if you can call it that) but 20/1 looks a fair price to me. Won’t be having any further interest in the race until declarations but Polidam was a horse I had backed for the National and will definitely back him for this. Carrying just a solitary pound more than his Irish mark he wiped Acapella Bourgeois & Fine Rightly (who would have ran very well were it not for Haydock’s special variety of soft ground in the Peter Marsh) off the face of the earth at Navan.
Bigbadjohn is interesting stepping down in trip. He has now joined a competent trainer following a spell in the doldrums with Rebecca Curtis. Hard to assess the strength of his most recent form as Brandon Hill ran too bad to be true over 2m 4f in the Silver Bowl. Flying Angel is fascinating on last season’s form but has done little this year to encourage. Katachenko most be feared at this meeting and was my selection in this last year. Obviously he unseated but I suspect he has been campaigned with this meeting in mind all season. Slightly surprisingly he has an entry in the 3 mile handicap on Saturday but not in the Red Rum.
If getting into the race Enjoy Responsibly would also go on the shortlist because he jumps quite well and could still be well handicapped following his departure from the yard of Sam Thomas (another trainer who I hold in little regard). The concern is that is 2 wins for Oliver Sherwood have been at Fakenham but his prominent style of running could help here to try and avoid the inevitable carnage which will ensue behind.
The more I look at it though, the more I add to my list so I’m going to have to leave it at that.
April 12, 2018 at 12:38 #1349905Theatre and Ballyalton made it. So hopeful.
April 12, 2018 at 15:11 #1349942With Paddy Power paying 6 places I will side with Ultragold 20-1 and Shanahans Turn at 20-1 here
April 12, 2018 at 18:44 #1349997I haven’t touched anything within the top 7 in the market, I’ve instead opted for the machine gun approach on 5 outsiders.
ART MAURESQUE (20/1) – I’m a fan of this boy’s jumping and back in trip I think he’ll go close now 4 pounds better off with Theatre Territory than at Kempton. Like that one he bypassed Cheltenham and is now back below the 150 mark.
EASTLAKE (28/1) – He is the enigma wrapped up inside a conundrum but one who’s won here and if on a going day should win off his mark.
HIGHLAND LODGE (16/1) – He found both the ground too lively and the trip too far in last year’s National; this is more of his cup of tea now back on a softer surface at his favourite course. He’s very fairly weighted and could use his stamina to good effect against less hardened opponents.
SHANAHAN’S TURN (25/1) – The stable is in good form now and this lad is weighted to go close if on a going day. I felt he showed up well for a long way at Cheltenham and could be involved if building on that. He’s been lightly raced this season so I expect a bold showing.
ULTRAGOLD (18/1) – Last year’s winner arrives off a 5 pound higher mark but he finished a gallant second in the heavy ground Sefton off this mark back in December. A similar showing could see him go close to doubling up.
April 12, 2018 at 20:24 #1350011I have come to the same conclusion as you Charles!!
Scattergun approach from meMIDNIGHT SHOT 40/1
BEAU BAY 33/1
SHANAHANS TURN 25/1
FLYING EAGLE 40/1
INDIAN TEMPLE 33/1I went for the less then eleven stone and less than eleven years old angle!!
