I’ve mentioned Blue Lord as my idea of The Topham winner a few times, and delighted to see him get the entry. Unfortunately he’s not been missed in the market, and currently best priced 16’s. I was hoping for 25’s, but think I can forget it.
Although he’s got plenty of other options for him over the next month, I promised myself I would have a good swing at him Antepost, and once 16’s is confirmed as best price, I’ll have more on, but I’ve started chipping away anyway.
The real fly in the ointment for me is Kilcruit. I’m really keen on him for The Irish National, but it dawned on me the other day that this was equally suitable, and I’ve got no option, to at least cover the 33’s, as I’m convinced he wins a proper pot before the seasons out. Stablemate, and in same colours, Appreciate It, is also interesting, as are Classic Getaway, and Spanish Harlem
The Goffer is a horse that I still like, and he has to be seriously respected off his current mark, and over his this trip. I’d have no hesitation in having three in this on the day, but as I’m likely to add Kilcruit, I can’t justify three Antepost, and I do like the 20’s.
Other potential Irish raiders of note, are Riaan, and Shantreusse, but the real dark one to me is Lisnamult Lad. I’m no buying his last run at Cheltenham, and I think he’s miles better than that. Very interesting at 40’s.
Of the home runners, I particularly like Highstakesplayer at 33’s, and I think that’s too big. Booster Bob another notable entry, and surprised that he’s as big as he is.
This quartet then, very much of interest, and of big appeal at current prices………
Appreciate It
Highstakesplayer
Lisnamult Lad
The Goffer……but for now, Blue Lord, and Kilcruit for me. I’ll be having good go on Blue Lord, and it’ll be same with Kilcruit, but just watching the market with him first, and I’d love to see The Irish National entries released, with him in mind.
Edit – Kilcruit not going, and pleased I held back on him. Still not convinced with the market and other entries for Blue Lord, but I’ve had a good go anyway, topped up to 44’s
Kilcruit 33’s NR
Blue Lord 44’s
March 23, 2025 at 10:36 #1724669Highstakesplayer is one that I like too, but my early bet on this is Es Perfecto at 33-1. I thought that he’s ran a few good races this year and I just think that 33-1 is really worth taking right now
March 24, 2025 at 10:40 #1724751It’s a smashing set of entries. Loads of old favourites here.
Arizona Cardinal is just one pound higher than when winning this last year. This is a race that historically rewards course form and he has to be of interest.
Ginnys Destiny is a very interesting entry considering how highly regarded he was this time last year. A bit like Paul Nichols’ National runners; lowering their sights could bare fruit. Just look at Caldwell Potter. 148 is a pretty mad mark.
Ga Law has been competetive this season off a higher mark than what he’ll have if trapping here. Trainer has always had National aspirations for him, but this has always been more realistic.
It was a joy watching Eldorado Allen jump round in last year’s Grand National and he’s another who has been competetive this season off higher marks, for all this looks far more competetive. Can’t leave him alone, regardless.
Dan Skelton will have something up his sleeve with Le Milos who looked so good at Warwick in February. I’ve a feeling they’re going to target all these Aintree races going forward and this will be their starting point.
Five is plenty, so I will try to whittle it down between now and the days leading up to it.
March 26, 2025 at 22:08 #1724897Le Milos is the horse I liked on seeing the entries Peter. I haven’t bet him yet, but he’s top of the list
March 28, 2025 at 22:27 #1725023Jordan’s for me at 20-1

French dynamite 66/1 I would like him to make all.April 3, 2025 at 19:12 #1725681Few tickled at this , Solid fav in Blue Lord but like Bobby The Goffer looks a value e.w bet , caught the eye last time and handicapper has def given him a chance , can’t forget how well Eldorado Allen ran for a long way in the GN last year , this should be perfect distance wise and is another e.w play , finally Ginnys Destiny is another given a chance by the handicapper , been disappointing this season but tongue strap on and yard is targeting the meeting so he’s the last e.w p!ay

April 3, 2025 at 21:49 #1725715I’ve backed The Goffer many times and will do it again. He really should have a chance on this mark and ground.
