    Entries confirmed…..

I had a very provisional shortlist of four for this, and if this is the correct entries, I’m surprised that Torn and Frayed isn’t in there. The other three Annamix, <strongJanika, and Palmers Hill are all quoted. I’m sure they’ve just been messing about with Annamix all season, and at least encouraging that he doesn’t feature in the entries for The Irish National. Palmers Hill is way ahead of the handicapper in my opinion, even allowing for him disappointing last time. The ride given to him at Wetherby last year, confirmed to me that they’ve got a big race in mind for him, and this would fit the bill. I’ve put Janika up a lot in the past, without actually betting him too often. I did bet him at Doncaster though. He was very disappointing. He’s either regressive, or just getting extremely well handicapped. Based on his run at Cheltenham on New Year’s Day, I think it’s the latter, and I like him for this.

Another I really like is Snugsborough Hall. Very encouraging run over hurdles the other day, over an inadequate trip. Fourth in this last year, and he looks a player at a very decent price.

I’ve bet Commodore and Roi Mage for The National, so I would only consider them nearer the time. Same applies to Samcro.

Interesting that Spyglass Hill gets an entry after missing the big one, and it looks as if they’ve decided this is trip. Unlucky here a few months back when running a big race, and he’s very much considered.

Celebre D’Allen is a horse who really impressed me at Warwick, and though he flopped last week, he’s one I’m likely to persevere with.

Other potential Irish Raiders who really jump out are Battleoverdoyen, Blackbow, Chatham Street Lad, Batcio, Royal Rendevouz, and Us And Them. Battleoverdoyen is a horse I mentioned last summer as one I’d be following, and he’s still of big interest to me. I think he’s a very interesting horse still, and very much on my mind for The Galway Plate again. I’ve got to start betting him soon, but I’ll probably hold off again here

Batcio was right in the notebook earlier in the season, and if he were to travel across, I’d almost certainly bet him.

Obviously makes sense to wait until the entries are released, but if these are confirmed, I could easily see an early bet from me on two or three from the shortlist….

    Early Shortlist
    Annamix
    Janika
    Palmers Hill
    Snugsborough Hall

Francky Du Berlais is my early selection here 40-1, and I’m also very interested in Blackbow and Spyglass Hill

The bet is on; couldnt resist

Gaelic Coast at 16s, win only.

Prob go for Mac Tottie as well, but defo holding off, for now. Had a win on him back in the Autumn, over the Aintree fences. He’s also entered in the GN, but i think the 2m5f of the Topham will suit better. His win there in November, was over 2m5f.

Really tried to hold off here, but had an early bet on Batcio at 25’s. Proper eyecatching run in The Dan Moore, and looks too big.

Unfortunately Commodore looking less likely to getting in The Grand National, so I’d much prefer him to run in The Betway Handicap on Saturday, rather than here, as that shortlist…..

    Annamix
    Commodore
    Janika
    Palmers Hill
    Snugsborough Hall

    …..is now getting bigger

    Batcio 25’s

The two I’ve gone for, ew 6 places bog, are Fantastic Lady 14-1 and Mac Tottie 16-1. Ridden by Bowen and Bowen.

Peter Bowen’s pair Mac Tottie and Francky Du Berlais interest me.

The former is back to the mark off which it won the Grand Sefton and the latter (eighth there) is now 2lb below the mark off which it hosed up in the Summer Plate at Market Rasen last July.

Loads of old favourites here. Spiritofthegames looks so well treated and has to get his head in front one of these days.

Three outsiders I’ll be looking at are Franky Du Berlais, Ridersonthestorm and Mister Whitaker.

I don’t particularly want to bet four, but I’m struggling to decide which one gets cut. It’s a very good renewal and I’m expecting a fair few finishers if the ground remains as it is.

Can anyone recommend any good bridges in the Hampshire area please?

Because I’ve followed Spiritofthegames over a cliff in so many big handicap chases as he’s come down the weights and I refuse to back him ever again.

If he wins on Friday, I will be in dire need of said local bridge – so I can jump off it.

I picked the wrong Bowen horse when Mac Tottie won the Sefton and I’m convinced he’s got a big race in him. He didn’t jump great that day though so perhaps the fences don’t suit.

Senior citizen will run a big race as well. He does enjoy the fences and I’ll put the pretty tame effort last time out down to the soft ground.

This isn’t a race that I should be going near, but I can’t resist Notebook at 20-1
