    The new Toronado?

    Hoping he’ll be a bit more consistent than that, actually. <!– s:D –>:D<!– s:D –>

Toronado is an extremely high class horse. His abilities get lost in the shuffle of inconsistency.

Toormore won really well today and his form has a solid complexion to it. Still, whilst they clearly think a considerable amount of him, it won’t be before next year where we get an idea of his true ability. I suspect he isn’t at the same level of Toronado.

    Sadly

    Toormore

wont be running in the Middleham Park Sky Blue colours by then, every chance Mr Dettori will ride him in the 2000gns.

He’s so good he hasn’t done a days work since Goodwood and still won easy. Wait to next year when they start training him, will leave War Command for dead.

We cannot really assess ANY horse til after they retire, never mind the end of a 3yo campaign, but sadly bookmakers like you to take a view BEFORE a career has ended so mine is that Toormore can achieve a higher OR than Toronado. :D

We can’t assess a horse til after it’s retired ?! Blimey

Toormore won the Richmond, just like Dick Turpin ( also by Arakan ).
However, Toomore has speed influences on both sides so it’ll be interesting to see if he can stay a mile or further at G1 level next year.
Arakan won over a mile at Warwick but only won over 7 furlongs at the higher levels.

Actually Toormore won the Richmond just like Dawn French won the 100 metres at the Olympics.

    I.E. he didn’t – he won the 7f Group 2. :D

Point still stands about his stamina though

One of racing’s myths is that the Rowley Mile takes some staying (another being that the 1m 4f at Epsom doesn’t).

I think Toormore will be well suited by it. :D

Probably the greatest jockey of all times held that Epsom could be won by a horse who did not stay the mile and a half. And he won seven Derbies.

Just back to subject. On the track looks like a horse who should stay a mile, but watching him walking around the parade ring yesterday wouldn’t be surprised if he turns into a top sprinter should they go that direction.

My nagging doubt for the 2000G would be how he will handle Newmarket.

If I had to compare Toormore to the

    2YO

Toronado, then I’d certainly think the former appeals most. I think Toormore has a better looking stride and gives the hint that he could stay 10 furlongs because he looks more straight forward and has a nice attitude about the way he races.

I’m loving the crop of two year olds we’ve got this season.

The further he goes, the further he wins.

Sudirman was rated 117 going into the race and Toorman beats him a comfortable two and three-quarter lengths, going away.

Will love 1m, has the best 2yo form in Europe, and 12/1 for the 2,000 Guineas looks very fair.

Kingman is unexposed and clearly decent, but has no business being less than half the price on what he has done so far. :D

Goodwood is undulating, the Curragh a stiffish track.

If he remains as balanced as a 3 yr old then tracks won’t be a problem.

Lester Piggott certainly rode The Derby course far more times than I ever walked it but the first 6f is uphill, I don’t think the descent compensates adequately and the Standard time for 1m 4f at Epsom – compared to that at say, The Curragh or Ascot – tends to support my view.

If it was an easy 1m 4f, more 2,000 Guineas winners would have won the race and how many Derby winners can you think of who eventually turned out to be best at shorter distances?

    :D
