In a wide open race 7/2 for Maraahel to place, even under a penalty, is a very good price imo.
I think Charlie Farnsbarns, if he can reproduce his 2yo form (First run back was encouraging, as is the softening ground) then I think he could also run into a place at 11/2.
I can’t see past Royal and Regal in the Staying race. Worthy favourite unlike Pipedreamer.
May 29, 2008 at 17:47 #165859Why does the Temple get switched around, has it got a "proper home" (excuse my ignorance)?
Dunno why, but we in the North West are short of Group races so it`s a welcome change.
May 29, 2008 at 18:14 #165863when North Light got turned over by a filly (who’s name escapes me) in the Brigadier
It was New Morning what did it.
May 29, 2008 at 18:31 #165866Fantastic ride from Dettori to steal the Henry II Stakes. Thought Callan was pretty poor on Royal and Regal and still think that was the best horse in the race. Given the crawl and the proximity of Enjoy The Moment, I wouldn’t be getting too carried away by the seeming revival of Sergeant Cecil. Hard to think that the conections of Yeats and Coastal Path will be too worried by what they just saw.
May 29, 2008 at 19:50 #165875The Sarge will have hated the crawl and the deteriorating ground. He may not be what he was but that was encouraging enough to suggest that he can still win Group races.

Little bit unfair to say that he stole it. The horse was headed in the straight and battled back to get up.

To my knowledge their are 26 i think Group 1 races on the flat.
Haydock has 1
Doncaster has 1
York have 4The North by and large gets ignored but has some of the best racing in the country for me.
May 29, 2008 at 20:02 #165879Donny has 2, but I think York has only three, so the numbers come out right after all
May 29, 2008 at 20:03 #165881Bushman seems a nice horse
May 30, 2008 at 07:48 #165931The night started well for me with Punjabi and he was the horse I was most looking forward to seeing. He looked lovely in the parade ring so he was my main bet.
It went downhill from there for me

I had Sargeant Cecil each way because I think 33/1 was too big for him on his day, which to me he seemed to be on, he was very keen all the way around and I think he just ran out of steam at the finish. I think 1m 6f would suit the horse better.
And where do I begin with Iguazu Falls! I thought I was onto a winner before the race even started having taken 7/2 and him going off at 2/1!
I had a great evening though, even with the rain and the lack of winners. Good atmosphere for a midweek evening meeting and would definately do it again!
May 30, 2008 at 12:32 #165959It is fair to say that both clivex and prufrock would have enjoyed an already enjoyable night a great deal more had MARAAHEL BLUUDY WELL HUNG ON IN THE BRIGADIER GERARD.

Nice to catch up with Clive and Grey Desire again, nonetheless.
May 30, 2008 at 12:46 #165961and two of the work crowd i was chaperoning backed…Smokey Oakey …because they liked the name …

May 30, 2008 at 12:55 #165964I had one of those at Windsor recently Clive.
Good to see you both again, just a shame the weather spoilt things somewhat.
May 30, 2008 at 13:23 #165966You too Mr Grey

If its tipping down, Sandown is a better course than most to be at
My work crowd were at windsor the year before…now imagine that rain there
Was interesting too what these occasional and first time race goers though of the course..
They absolutely loved the place
May 30, 2008 at 16:11 #165978Nightmare journey from Newmarket to Sandown – 3 hours there, 1 1/2 back – and soaked through even with mack but still enjoyed it.
Didn’t see any of the TRF gang (would only have recognised GD) but did enjoy dinner courtesy of Betfair – just a shame I couldn’t avail myself of the free booze as I was driving.
Thought that the racing was very good quality – like a Royal Ascot prep – but the ground probably meant that the form may not stand up.
The one I’d take out of the meeting would be Charlie Farnsbarns who ran much better than his placing would suggest.
Also looking forward to seeing Thundering Star over hurdles this Winter!

The good old M25 perchance?
Similar story from MK – set off at 3:15 aiming to arrive 1 1/2 hours before the first – finally arrived as they were crossing the line in the first – I was not a happy bunny.
