It would be a great shame Joe if Great Field were to be restricted to just running in Ireland.
I didn’t expect him to appear here anyway, but I hope he does make the festival. I love his
bold front running style, nothing can keep with him. Some may say he doesn’t respect his
fences, he certainly goes hell for leather over them and has clouted a few, but he’s never
looked like he was going to come down. He’s my star horse in Bobby’s Ten To Follow, I hope
that doesn’t jinx himDecember 5, 2018 at 19:50 #1388124I’ve backed UDS for this now. Think with the forecast ground and stuff posted by the owners he’ll be heading here. If the ground gets very soft I think Altior may struggle to pick him up. Altior needs to be woken up a lot in his races and seems to get on top around 2 furlongs out. By that time UDS will have already kicked 6L clear and there will be no catching him!
That’s if he turns up mind!!!
December 6, 2018 at 02:45 #1388151Nothing can live with Altior after he jumps the last fence.
December 6, 2018 at 10:38 #1388168Four runners
Altior takes on Un de Sceaux, Saint Calvados and Sceau Royal
December 6, 2018 at 12:07 #1388181Altior is 8-11 which I think is a good price; unbeaten at the top level and has track form. St Calvados + UDS may cut each other’s throat in front.
December 6, 2018 at 12:34 #1388184I took 6/1 ew with 3 places last night for UDS so only has to beat one to at least get my money back. Still think Altior may struggle to pick up the front runners here so slightly hopeful UDS may win too.
Despite it only being 4 runners, nice to see top horses facing each other, it is a grade 1 after all!
Just hope they show it on the screens at Aintree as I’ll be there!
December 6, 2018 at 12:41 #13881862 free going front runners and two hold up horses – interesting spectacle.
It could all depend on how fresh UDS is 1st time out as to whether he actually takes on Saint Calvados up front as he is a little more tractable these days (he tends to only tank along when running over 2m4f when there is a slower early pace – not likely here).
Still think the going could go to soft all round as 8-10mm predicted for Thurs/Fri and another couple on Saturday and that would suit UDS who it can’t be too soft for.
A race to simply sit back and watch – hopefully they all bring their jumping boots and we get something like the Moscow Flyer/Well Chief/Azertyuiop classic.
December 6, 2018 at 12:52 #1388187What a race!
Sceau royal for me though, ground may slightly have went against him but i cant desert regardless of the opposition
December 6, 2018 at 15:27 #1388197Can’t wait for this!!
Looks a brilliant race even though only four runners
December 6, 2018 at 21:58 #13882858/11 seems quite generous for Altior. Gonna put him in some doubles for the weekend.
December 8, 2018 at 07:38 #1388436I am so excited for this race. No interest in the betting (I have Altior to go unbeaten this season anyway), just going to sit back, watch and enjoy. As Kevin Blake said on the FFP this week, if this race doesn’t wet the appetite your in the wrong game
December 8, 2018 at 11:09 #1388470BigG – he doesn’t appear in the bookmakers “to win any race” at the Festival market,
William Hill have Great Field in the ‘win any race’ market. He’s currently priced up at 14-1, which is bizarrely the same price as he is in the Champion Chase
December 8, 2018 at 11:17 #1388474If there is ever a race when Altior will be beaten it’s this. It’s now heavy ground at Sandown which I think will play to Un De Sceaux’s strengths despite Altior’s ability to stay. We know Un De Sceaux is always strong first time out. Not a betting race for me but I will be hoping for an Altior win.
December 8, 2018 at 11:20 #1388477Only 4 runners but really intriguing race
UDS 1st time out, can relax a little and the jockey will probably want to sit behind the tearaway. Altior 1st time out, all about March for him but his ability is unrivalled, hits a flat spot which could leave him with a bit to do on this course. Sceau Royal can travel well and will like the predicted pace but this looks another step up for him to cope with. It’s a no bet race for me but I having a nagging feeling the race fit Saint Calvados if UDS doesn’t nag him could let loose on the front end and hold on. He got Footpad at it and shouldnt be taken lightlyBlackbeard to conquer the World
December 8, 2018 at 14:14 #1388517Why are so many people here calling Altior a hold up horse? All 3 times he has ran at Sandown (and almost all other races)he has tracked the leaders and raced prominently.
Altior should absolutely hack up here so his price is giving out a major alarm here and a bad performance looks likely. Just too big odds。
A watching race for me but no surprise if Altior gets beat today。
December 8, 2018 at 14:53 #1388525It was interesting to see the sight on ITV that it was actually Ruby doing the sadling of UDS in the box in the pre-parade ring. He also just stated that he wished it was a fair bit softer for him!!!
December 8, 2018 at 14:57 #1388527Seems like the weather gods heard Ruby but this torrential rain falling maybe a little too late to get into the ground.
