My turn to be the laughing stock of the forum.
I think Sizing the EU is def worth taking on after his testing race last time.
Kauto
could
be anything as others have suggested, but he may be more of a stone than a star, so worth opposing at the skinny price.
Wishful Thinking
for me!
This race could be tailor-made: fast pace and a serious jumping challenge, he should relish it.
3/1 not amazing but he may drift.
Good luck all. Prepare to be laughed at!!

December 3, 2011 at 00:24 #380734As has been pointed out by someone else, 20/1 for Wishfull Thinking for the QM at Cheltenham won’t last long if he wins tomorrow. Been wanting to back him for that all week, but not had the time.
December 3, 2011 at 05:08 #380766Wealth Warning:
The only genuine 2 miler in this race is Sizing Europe backing anything else can damage your pocket

I wouldn’t regard Cornas or Gauvain as anything but 2 mile chasers, albeit with a much lesser level of form than Sizing Europe.

Paul Nichols is full of surprises, can’t believe he’s running Kauto Stone.
His last race was on the same card as Sizing Europe and his time was much faster so I suppose he deserves a crack at it.
The fact it was a fast run race may indicate he’ll be fast enough at 2 miles. However he couldn’t have picked a tougher opponent than Sizing Europe .
.
PN is clearly hoping the soft ground will slow the others down.
Nothing in Kauto Stone’s CV suggests he’s up to this, on grounds of class, form, or distance, and his only hope is that Wishfull Thinking and Sizing Europe both run well below par – the latter, seriously.
Confident place lay.December 3, 2011 at 15:17 #380838What a horse!! Only Finian’s Rainbow has any chance of getting a sniff in the Queen Mother.
Kauto Stone will be a major force in the Ryanair and Cornas ran another fine race…just wish he had passed Kauto Stone on the run-in!
December 3, 2011 at 15:20 #380839Must have more of Kauto’s blood in him than we thought. He’s ran a blinder and looks a sure fire Cheltenham winner for the future
December 3, 2011 at 15:31 #380843Super performance from Sizing Europe, won in the manner that a Champion Chaser should.
Still fancy Big Zeb to rattle his cage in March though
December 3, 2011 at 16:19 #380849It’s amazing how some of these 2 mile chasers retain their speed.
Sizing Europe will be a 10yo and Big Zeb an 11yo in March.
I can’t agree THM Big Zeb won’t be getting any faster and SE seems to have retained his speed.
December 3, 2011 at 17:28 #380855Congrats to those that backed Sizing EU. He showed what a classy 2 miler he is AND how tough he is. Admirable.
Kauto’s half-blud (riot speak) ran well – not sure you can say he’s a guaranteed future Chelters winner though
.As for Wishful Stinking – such a fine jumper but clearly something amiss. I read in the Post today that he had not been breathing properly. One couldn’t back him after this as he went out like a light after a suicidal gallop, but there was more to it than that, he’s not a well chappy. Shame, as he has much ability.

December 3, 2011 at 17:37 #380859Awesome performance. Whenever I see him I can’t help but think back to his attempt at the Champion Hurdle and what a shame that he was injured.
December 3, 2011 at 18:08 #380864Well done Sizing Europe, connections and backers. Could not resist half a saver on him myself when touching 2/1.
Doubt he needed to improve in the end. Deserves plenty of credit for getting over that hard race at Down Royal so quickly. Had form to beat Cornas more than the total of 13 lengths, and Imsingingtheblues by a total of 16 1/4. Dickie J made it easier for Lynch, going off far too fast on Wishful Thinking for the third time in five rides. Breathing problems a contributory factor to his poor showing. Kauto Stone ran well, but may be better off back over further. Sizing Europe certainly proved once and for all equally effective on soft ground. One they all have to beat again at Cheltenham in March, although bookmakers reaction looks an over-reaction to me.Value Is EverythingDecember 3, 2011 at 18:17 #380868

Wishfull Thinking was reported to be "thick in his wind" after the Paddy Power, but that’s common enough in horses returning from a break.
Clearly has a problem but, given the way he was ridden today, stable can’t have believed it was with his breathing.December 3, 2011 at 18:31 #380874

Ginger
SE travelled comfortably throughout and only did what he had to, so measuring against lengths others were beaten is a pretty pointless exercise.
For mine, he ran the race of his life lto, is possibly still improving, and Big Zeb looks the only possible threat to his title, with scant likelihood of anything superior emerging from the woodwork.ps Ground was no worse than g/s today, despite the softer patches turning into the back stretch.

need
" to improve Reet. He’s undoubtedly as good as ever. Agree, there’s still a possibility of improvement to come. But he didn’t show any better form there than he’s shown before (imo)- Therefore, I see no reason for bookmakers to slash his price by so much. All we learnt (for the future) is he’s equally effective on soft ground.
Agree, Big Zeb is the biggest threat, despite his age. Unless Finian’s Rainbow can progress.
Value Is EverythingDecember 3, 2011 at 18:50 #380881Just taken some 7/1 Big Zeb for Cheltenham.
Value Is EverythingDecember 3, 2011 at 19:02 #380885Cant help think that Wishfull Thinking’s connections have seen him outspeed staying novices at 20f+ and wrongly assumed he can outspeed the top mature 16f horses. Lets hope they rethink and work backwards from the Ryanair as he could still be a good horse.
On the QM front, I still think Captain Chris is being omitted from thinking prematurely. His best form is over the QM course & distance and last season when it came right down to it Hobbs opted for the shorter trip. He still has to prove his wellbeing but if his recent bad scopes lead them to by passing the King George then this could benefit the horse.Last season the Whatleys and Hobbs got plenty of plaudits (rightly) for getting the targets of Captain Chris & Wishfull Thinking spot on at Cheltenham, Aintree & Punchestown. Having got that right they now seem to want to invert their correct thinking by making CC a stayer and WT a 2 miler.
I am baffled personally by this topsy turvy approach. Keep it simple the evidence is before your eyes. - AuthorPosts
