I was one of the unfortunate people who backed this non-starter. Does anyone know which bookies treated it as a non-runner???? Thanks
February 8, 2009 at 23:20 #209024PaddyPower. All bookies should really offer a refund.

No they shouldn’t. Plenty of clues regarding her attitude pre-race.
February 9, 2009 at 00:21 #209029What can i say, i take the side of the punter. If you back a player to score in a football match and he dosen’t start, you get a refund if a goal is scored before he enters the field. I don’t see how racing should be any different.

Suppose he just doesn’t try? You’re not comparing like for like.
February 9, 2009 at 00:35 #209036He would try though, once he’s crossed the line. The horse in question didn’t get over the starting line.

I backed the horse early in the morning so didn’t have the luxury of watching her go to post, but given that she was under orders I can’t have too many complaints.
It happens, sadly.
February 9, 2009 at 00:51 #209039What about the punters that laid her on betfair because they saw she was being a cow to post?

A few years ago, they’d probably have had their stake returned as the horse was never actually ‘at the post’. And no, I didn’t have a bet in the race.
February 9, 2009 at 01:07 #209046I never had a bet on it myself for the record.

Surely those backing her at the time had the same opportunity to view her pre-race antics, DJ? If they didn’t have the means to see it then that can’t be helped.
February 9, 2009 at 01:48 #209057That’s my point. Anyone that took a risk laying her at inflated odds because of her antics deserves to be paid out on her not winning.
February 9, 2009 at 02:50 #209072Did Paddy Power apply a R4 to winning bets or was this an act of goodwill?
Why should winning punters pay for a horse that came under orders and offically ‘refused to race’. Although I have every sympathy for anyone who did back her but your pays your money….
February 9, 2009 at 03:00 #209076Straight forward refund.
February 9, 2009 at 03:51 #209091In other words they did not have massive liabilities on the horse and the cost of refunding the stakes was a cheap price for the goodwill and "free" publicity.
Now where is the cynicisn Emoticon?
