Very sad end for this brave lad today at Cheltenham – set off in the lead thoroughly enjoying himself – almost down 4 out – and that’s where IMO he should have been PU … however he wasn’t and after the last he was too injured to complete … (pelvic fracture) … very upsetting. I know hindsight is a wonderful thing but I do believe it was wrong to continue … RIP brave boy. :-( :-( :-(

    Racing Post:
Led, hit 9th (water), stumbled very badly 4 out and dropped to 3rd but still close enough, ridden after 3 out, not pace to get back on terms, 3rd and held when hit last, lost action and soon pulled up, fatally injured (op 10/1 tchd 11/1 and tchd 8/1)

PS Sorry I’ve not got his name quite right in the heading …

I think the way he sprawled and saved himself from actually falling 4 out probably did something to his pelvis and I was surprised he wasn’t PU then …

I think you are 100% right. Just look at his next three jumps, he didn’t blunder but he rarely went off the ground. It was clear that his hind legs didn’t lift him any longer. A very poor decision by a rather experienced jockey not to pull up, but even worse to run him over fences at Cheltenham where he was 4th from 4 runners and also a faller in just two chase starts. People forget that this meeting has had it’s share of fatalities over the past years. The ground is almost as fast as lightning, horses don’t land as soft as in November, December or even March and some of them had quite a long season. But this is the part of the season in which trainers simply don’t know when to call it a day. I know he had a nice win at Chepstow three weeks ago, so therefore it was okay to run him. But it’s even more important to also look after him.

Paul Maloney, his jockey today had ridden him in all but 2 of his races … disappointed he didn’t err on the side of caution and PU …
