Have I got this right?
We cannot talk about Flatstats because they are a commercial organisation but we can talk about Timeform,Betfair, Racing Post, Channel 4 and sundry other commercial sites.April 28, 2011 at 10:33 #352508bluechariot.COBRA had asked if there was any stats on betfair 1.2.3. he did not ask for any other information
April 28, 2011 at 11:41 #352524Doublethetrouble thank you very much for your assistance in this matter, much appreciated.
I cannot find a post from Cobra and what is Befair 1 2 3
Can I ask for your assistance again?
April 28, 2011 at 12:06 #352533Hey PP if your reading this, bit of a cheap shot putting up a days results to make a point about the merit of ratings. I’m sure you don’t need to be told, a days results are absolutely meaningless in the grand scheme of things.
In fairness to Timeform they do contribute prizes for TRF competitions, although the overall point about seeming preference for some commercial organizations over others on TRF is well made. Nice site by the way.

Ladbrokes publish all Timeform ratings for every horse for every race in their shops daily.
If you had the time and inclination you could do your own research for a week and see how they fared.
I may be wrong but I do not thsink you would show a profit.
I used their phone service several years ago when Jim McGrath was there.
I personally found it a waste of money.
April 28, 2011 at 19:19 #352591No bias toward Timeform, or anyone else. Just very fishy when a newcomer starts a thread which is them swiftly followed by recommendations/mentions for a commercial organisation. Particularly when we had exchanged some dialogue with the organisation for the first time the very day before (which I appreciate no one on here would have known.)
As many people know several Timeform employees do post on here from time to time and they do sponsor the odd competition (in fact we have a Kentucky Derby competition sponsored by them this very weekend.)
However I can assure you that has no bearing whatsoever on our reaction to this thread. In fact, if anything, concerns about being accused of bias probably led me, against my better judgement, to leave this thread up. My initial thought was that it was blatant spam which wanted removing.
Robert99 – those views are my own, I wasn’t spamming them. Timeform don’t claim a profit from their 1/2. They simply claim a strike rate. It’s up to them whether they report a pro/loss figure. I’ve used Timeform and would put their best race-readers and analysts up against anyone. That’s not spam, that’s my opinion.
I’m more than happy for any commercial organisation to be spoken about, but not when it appears a blatant spam attempt.
Cav – the only commercial bias on TRF occurs when we support our sponsors by placing info/ads, etc on either competition or price threads. We try extremely hard to ensure any TRF bias is absent in any other thread. However, as with this thread, my personal bias may be apparent. Again, maybe I need to keep my TRF Admin and Cormack15 identities more clearly separate.
A brief look through the archives would illustrate that we’re not protective of ANYBODY’S reputation. Spamming, potential libel or mindless abuse. That’s about all that gets removed. I can count on one hand the stuff that’s been removed this year. Hopefully the fact this has been left up is QED.
April 28, 2011 at 19:38 #352596I’d add that I have no idea whether the company involved knew anything about the thread, they’ve contacted me to say they haven’t. Things on the internet, and on forums, are not always as they appear, as we know.
But, as site moderators, we have to draw our conclusions on what we see on the site. In this case there was enough doubt in my mind about the origins of the initial question and follow-up replies that we didn’t pull the thread.
April 28, 2011 at 20:32 #352618Points taken, cormack. I probably had no business getting involved in this thread.
April 28, 2011 at 22:11 #352630Hey Cav – feel free to stick your oar in wherever you wish, I frequently do!
