(R2) Ballytrim(115) (WPMullins) – 9,10
(R3) Bronx Girl(113) (FFlood) – .(B) 9,10Looks very competitive as usual for Gowran Park’s showpiece of the year. Hopefully racing will get the go ahead because it’s always a real good card. I don’t really have too strong a fancy for any of the runners but I’m sure Cleni Boy will be popular after creeping in at the bottom of the weights. I’ve a few small antepost bets on Arbor Supreme for the Aintree National and if he’s to have any chance there, he’d want to be going close in this type of company, off that mark, so I’ll put him up as my e/w selection around the 8/1 mark.
January 21, 2009 at 18:48 #205573The stats are against you with Arbor Supreme IC- it’s very hard to carry over 11-0 here. I love the horse but he’ll have a job on under that weight. If Hold The Pin gets in he’s a big price at 12-1, for all that he’s better left-handed- I couldn’t resist that price.
January 21, 2009 at 18:56 #205576He’s got a big task at the weights alright Carvills. I’m more looking at him with a view to either Fairyhouse, or hopefully Aintree in the spring.
January 22, 2009 at 00:08 #205640i reckon arbor is a cert…i’ve taken a few quid at 7s…
January 22, 2009 at 01:04 #205647Arbor for me too.
This is looking pretty confident on this forum after just 4 posts!
I would be worried by Arbor carrying 11-4 though…My lightweight alternative is Operation Houdini at the moment but I havent punted him. Might take Hoopy instead….All depends on what a final look at their form shows for me.
January 22, 2009 at 01:34 #205654Emma Jane or Hoopy for me. Think Arbor Supreme has too much weight
January 22, 2009 at 02:23 #205665Haven’t done too much studying of form. Would have liked Emma Jane and Operation Houdini if their prices were bigger.
Had a stupid small bet on Himalayan Trail.
Same stake Hold The Pin.
Saves on Emma Jane, and this will have CH tutting, Chelsea Harbour. He has proven form of carrying topweight in Heavy going.

Chelsea Harbour has been in great form this year. He won off 11-10 beating a light-weight Cleni Boy on heavy going not too long ago.
My worry is that he seems to fall more than he stays upright in these kind of races this year. He’s fallen in 2 big handicaps over in Ireland now this year…….Which is a shame as I’m quite an admirer.
Operation Houdini is 9’s on Betfair, Gerald. Could drift tomorrow before the off slightly? Depends if Pricewise tips him up… We all know what happens to the decent prices if Pricewise tips it
January 22, 2009 at 03:00 #205671I’ve been an idiot, like Imperial Call, putting money on a 7yo for the GN. In my case Operation Houdini. Not too keen on lumbering more money on him.
Okay, I’ll do a saver. I’ll do it now, as I’m going to bed. At work 6am-2pm (will bunk off at 1.30 to get the 1.58 train home.)
January 22, 2009 at 03:11 #205673Correction. I’ve been a bigger idiot than IC. Mine needs to go up a stone in the ratings to make it into the race.
Oh well, I only put £14 on it – I thought it was more than that.
January 22, 2009 at 03:31 #205676If there is to be a trendy winner tomorrow it will be one of Optimus Prime, Hoopy or Emma Jane. Hold the Pin only fails on age grounds.
The more I look at the race the more I hope HTP gets in- a serious test at 3 miles is right up his street and only the fact that it’s right-handed stops me tearing into him. I may well back Emma Jane and Optimus Prime tomorrow to smaller stakes. I have a feeling Emma Jane might be a mover tomorrow.January 22, 2009 at 04:43 #205683

Operation Houdini for me.
The horses has improved leaps and bounds for the sort of stamina test this looks to be. Gave Notre Pere a real race in the Troytown with the rest beaten pointless, and represents the subsequent Welsh National winner off 11-11, at which he’d be a short-priced favourite for this. Can easily be forgiven his Paddy Power defeat as the slow pace and the less testing ground provided nothing like the test he needs. With 4 places guaranteed, looks a really solid win and place bet imo.January 22, 2009 at 19:09 #205797Emma Jane for me
January 22, 2009 at 19:51 #205807Good run by the winner there and even more impressive that it’s won it twice on the bounce. Think he wouldve been on most of our shortlists but none of us took him seriously.
Was a bit of a nerve racking time with Chelsea Harbour though! After backing him blind up to today when I turned my back on him I thought I was going to get payback!
Disappointing finish from Hoopy. Arbor Supreme done very well to finish 3rd there and I still really like him for the National.
January 23, 2009 at 03:28 #205937I agree that Arbour Supreme is a horse to follow- I think it’ll be Irish National this season, maybe Aintree next. Very similar race to last year where very few handled the atrocious conditions. In retrospect the winner had done it all before….
January 25, 2009 at 23:59 #206501If Emma Jane were to turn up in the irish national I would really fancy a go on her, thought she was moving brilliantly from way to far back at the end, and looking like she was crying out for further.

That moment is almost here. Come on Emma Jane
