Shut down immediately today.
August 1, 2025 at 22:14 #1737481Shocking and extremely sad – being privately owned, HRI has no forwarning of this but I am not sure what they could have done even if they did.
I do wonder just how much it actual cost to run the course for the year and this is where you would like to think that the big powerhouse Irish owners (Coolmore/JP etc that spend millions on horses) could maybe put some sort of group together that could buy it.
August 2, 2025 at 01:22 #1737498Maybe there’ll be planning permission soon……
August 2, 2025 at 17:30 #1737595Would like to think that the current owners would looked to sell it to people who first and foremost would want to keep it as a going concern for racing rather than developing the land for housing.
August 4, 2025 at 12:20 #1737654FYI more on this in the Irish Times today by Brian O’Connor

August 29, 2025 at 00:17 #1739029Great news even though it is only a temporary measure but at least it gives some breathing space for all parties in Irish Racing to come together to find a more permanent solution post March 2026.
August 29, 2025 at 13:54 #1739049The ‘Musselburgh Brains Trust’ discussed the issue of Thurles recently and we surmised that the owners were trying force the issue of getting someone to either buy or take over running of the course. Developments this week suggest that was the case.
September 10, 2025 at 14:06 #1739669I thought the very same thing Rob
