im a fairly avid watcher of quality cinema (no apologies for that description) and also a lot of theatre.
Three billboards has been strongly nominated for a load of oscars. i hope it wins the lot. This is the most powerful film I’ve seen in ages. It has everything you require from great cinema. Granted a late scene or two may stretch a little credulity but to counter that there are some very darkly funny moments and more importantly scenes that are genuinely moving.
in fact one sequence (as opposed to one scene) is i believe the most moving ive seen in film. . It actually doesnt involve the main character. it will have you on your knees……
see it. it will live with you
January 20, 2018 at 19:39 #1338353.Mark Kermode was raving about it (but we’re often disappointed with his choices). Our local indie cinema now only has films on a short run and, as we go away quite a lot, we keep missing films we want to see.The worst film me saw last year was The Death of Stalin: surrounded by people laughing their heads off and we didn’t find it funny at all.Favorite films were A Man called Ove and Paddington 2. Just watched on DVD Logan; was recommended but not my kind of film and The Limehouse Golem; couldn’t make sense of the plot but thought the atmosphere and the acting were superb…
January 24, 2018 at 00:09 #1338828Just seen it; had to go to a late screening as it was only on in the studio for earlier shows. I, too, hope it wins all the Oscars, although I doubt if it will.
April 23, 2018 at 21:23 #1351709A Quiet Place; have never been on the edge of my seat throughout a film as much as tonight…..
May 23, 2018 at 02:14 #1354697The very end, with the two characters going off on a roadtrip with apparent murderous intent, felt a bit bolted on and not entirely satisfactory. The rest of it, however, was inarguably tremendous, powerful and pitch-dark funny. Very glad I got to see it.

May 25, 2018 at 20:14 #1354969Saw Lean on Pete last week. Not quite what I was expecting but I couldn’t leave the cinema for a while because I was crying so much. Soppy as I am this very rarely happens to me; Brokeback Mountain had that effect, and a film about a young girl trying to save her brother during WW1 [can’t recall the name of that one]. Acting was superb. So, that’s three films I’ve seen recently that have completely blown me away. I agree about the end of Three Billboards. Glad I was wrong though, and it did [deservedly] win everything! And I got round to seeing Fargo [the film, not the series].
