I do agree with you MP as regards Tommo.
Sure he may not be everyones favourite broadcaster but he always livens up the crowd and is always up for a laugh for example when on duty for C4 at Chester a few years ago he went into the Dee Stand down by the 2f marker and was rugby tackled by a scouser but took it all in good faith.
I have met him once and seen him a few times and he always makes time for people to chat to and is always good at ad libbing when needed for a few moments on the telly.
Personally i would have loved to have seen him takeover hosting Countdown when Richard Whitley died as i think he would have done a grand job doing it

I agree, I think he is brilliant ad ad lib, I mean straight after the Gold Cup, when stuck for something to say, he asks Ruby Walsh did he pick the right horse, inspired!!!!! I wish C4 did put him on countdown.

March 31, 2008 at 21:30 #154811I also like thommo, I generally like most of the Channel 4 team, and much prefer their delivery to the BBCs (Willy Carson can be entertaining at times), its the fact that they are not perfect that makes it good TV at times between the races.
Only CH4 bits Im not big on is the fact that they don’t show the markets often enough, which is annoying when Im watching it in work. Also, can’t have Allistair Down, his overly slow paced, word mincing, sinusoidal, auto cue fed reports that he never seems to stop doing, coupled with his voice, just go through me. Reckon hes got a voice for newspapers, Steven Hawking could recite auto cue faster, but realise that some people actually like Down.

Surely that’s an internet first, Bulwark?

April 1, 2008 at 08:52 #154854It was quite a funny interview actually. BBC always fawn over the Sheikh ("he has got a country to run after all chortle"); I was waiting for Thommo to call him Sheikh Mo.
Maybe after the Guinneas – "Sheikh Mo, did you buy the wrong horses?"
It depends what you are expecting. A racing pundit with a mine of information he is not; a jovial presenter with a good chat yes he is.
April 1, 2008 at 10:18 #154872Ive never met Thommo and im sure he is a really nice bloke, however when i see him on the box he just comes across as a dork in my opinion. I shouldnt be suprised hes married afterall big mac tied the knot
