A shame that as he looked pretty settled in the first few furlongs, but ran away with himself thereon afterwards.

The hood didn’t seem to make much difference. Perhaps a fence will help him settle.

April 20, 2014 at 17:37 #476340Bit of a mixed bag today. Sort It Out was punted off the boards but ran no sort of race, pulling up before to out. Ballycasey looked to have a leading chance when he fell in the Powers Gold Cup. It was a stupid fall from a horse that actually wings fences 90% of the time. 90% isn’t enough though so hopefully he can learn. Blue Hell was too keen early but ran well to place while I was a bit disappointed with Wounded Warrior who just got up for a place. Sailors Warn was another who disappointed while Badgerfort got me out of jail with an easy win in the bumper at Cork.

April 20, 2014 at 20:50 #476354The Irish Grand National is the feature event of the the Easter period and it sees a few horses I backed at Cheltenham competing against each other. Tammys Hill, Cause Of Causes and Pendra all ran well for me in March, with the first named winning and the others placing, blundering what looked like winning runs away with mistakes in the closing stages. I’m willing to let Pendra run here as I have doubts about his stamina over this trip, but the other two are once again of interest.
In my book
Cause Of Causes
should be favourite. There are some doubts about him over this trip but he stayed on very well in the Kim Muir at Cheltenham having made a mess of the last. He’s gone up a lot in the weights without winning but he’s deserved the weight he’s got and remains a horse to keep on side. 14/1 is too big in my opinion, and he is my main bet.
I’ve had a smaller bet on
Tammys Hill
, who is disputing favouritism at 11/1. He’s a strong stayer and has been in super form recently, winning competitive hunter chases with plenty in hand at both Leopardstown and Cheltenham. The other horse I’ve had a bet on is
My Murphy
at 16/1. He looks like he’s crying out for this sort of trip and has only gone up 6 lbs for his recent win at Navan. The expected overnight rain should also strengthen his case. I think this trio are value, in particular Cause Of Causes.
The only other bet I’ve had is
Baily Dusk
in the 6.05, a 2m 6f handicap chase. He was disappointing last time out but he had a lot of hard races leading up to that run. Now he’s been given a break, it’s worth taking a chance that he bounces back to form at the generous price of 16/1.

April 21, 2014 at 19:27 #476463Tammys Hill a NR and no luck with the other three selections. Cause Of Causes was disappointing, jumped desperately and having got himself close enough to challenge he finished weakly. Galway Plate here we come!
Having the money returned on Tammys Hill (and a bit more) on
Noble Inn
in the third race at Ballinrobe tomorrow. He showed high class form behind Analifet and Abyssial earlier in the season before running a good race off top weight in the Fred Winter at Cheltenham, being beaten less than 11 lengths. He’s 3/1 for tomorrow when I expected him to be sub 2/1.

10/1 for the Arkle………Will get back to you later Gord, just on the phone here now. Dropped in to say tyat 4/5 about Faugheen looks a steal! Strange that Vautour doesn’t run but two miles shouldn’t be an issue for Faugheen.

10/1 for the Arkle………What do you think yourself Gord? He was more imressive than last time but Gemix ran below form by the looks of it. He’s still an extremely exciting talent but I’ve been really frustrated that he hasn’t been given a chance in a grade one two mile hurdle this season.
Back to Faugheen, and the only thing preventing me from having a tonne on is the fact that it’s not unusual for horses to bomb out at Punchestown. Every year there seem to be a couple of major disappointments, hopefully he won’t be one of them because if he’s on his A-Game he’ll hose up. The drop in trip may actually suit him because he can be quite keen and has plenty of gears. The last day I was in Punchestown was when he won his maiden hurdle and Hurricane Fly won the Morgiana, can’t wait to go tomorrow

Never a Champion hurdler in a million years…….Champion chaser? He’s a very imposing individual with an engine but he’s always going to be a horse to force the pace as he doesn’t know how to drop a gear.I’d like to see him round Cheltenham, that would give us a clue to his potential.Bags of scope but lets hope Willie doesn’t do an Annie Power with him and drop him in the deep end before he can Swim with the big boys.

I dunno Gord, he’s been in the shallow end of the pool all season and we still don’t know how he’d fare against the top two milers, which really disappoints me. I definitely wouldn’t be backing him for an Arkle at this stage, with Faugheen, Vautour, Annie Power and possibly Un Atout also potential Mullins contenders

Looking forward to Don Poli alright Darren, although the bookies aren’t taking much of a chance at 2/1. Couldn’t put you off Morning Assembly who doesn’t know how to run a bad race but I think I’ll be siding with Djakadam myself, traveled like a dream until he fell in the JLT and if he gets the trip I think he’ll win. As for Twinlight, I’m not sure about the big race, I’ll be cheering on old Sizing
