Another day another dollar… Bishops Road does the business having been backed into 6/5. He looked like he was going to hack up having jumped the second last, but Rock The World made a race of it over the last. The way Bishops Road traveled suggests he should be able go on to better things.
At the other end of the scale Some Hawk drifted like a barge and then proceeded to run like one. He was very keen and jumped deliberately, if he gets his act together he should win a maiden hurdle, but given connections his first win may come in a handicap!

October 5, 2013 at 10:56 #453642With two non runners in the 3.35 at Gowran, it looks like
Concordin
will run. However, the 11/4 disappeared while I was outside for half an hour picking apples, typical. He’s best price 9/4 now and I think he’ll win. His bumper form looks very good, with an unlucky 2nd to Akorakor before being beaten by Made In Germany who looks smart. I have a feeling Concordin was below his best that day but if he runs to the level he produced behind Akorakor he’ll win imo.

October 5, 2013 at 11:37 #453652The jumps really is back and if anyone wants proof all they need do is watch the 4.40 from Gowran today. Form Champion Chaser
Sizing Europe
takes on a quality field in the PWC Champion Chase, a 2m 4f Grade 2. On his best form I’d expect him to win this with his head in his chest but his record first time out is hit and miss. Last year he hacked up in the same race but two years ago he was well and truly stuffed by Rubi Light before that one came down at the last. It’s possible that now that he’s getting on, Henry de Bromhead will aim to have him at his peak for the beginning of the season but that is something that has to be taken on trust.
I’m finding it very hard to split the quartet of Rubi Light, Quito De La Roque, Roi Du Mee and Baily Green. At his peak,
Rubi Light
isn’t far off the best over two and half miles, particularly on soft ground. However, he was below his best most of last season, his only run up to scratch was behind Sizing Europe at Leopardstown. You’d have to be hoping he’ll return to his best, if he does he’s more than capable of winning this.
I once though
Quito De La Roque
to be a God Cup horse. Things haven’t worked out in that regard but he showed he’s still a horse of considerable ability when dispatching Roi Du Mee last season before a good run at Aintree behind First Lieutenant. He’s another, like Rubi Light, who can be a bit hit and miss.
Roi Du Mee
is the most consistent performer, bar the favorite, in the field. He ran poorly first time out last season but Gordon Elliott’s horses are flying currently. That poor run FTO last season is the only concern for me – if it wasn’t for that I’d be going in strongly as I’d be reasonable confident he’d run to his mark, something which can’t be said of most of the others.
Baily Green
ran some excellent races in defeat last season but they were just that – in defeat. I’m not convinced he’s up to this level but on the other hand he’s the young gun stepping up against the big boys as opposed to some of the others who are trying to rediscover their best.
Laganbank, Sumkindasuprstar and Tribes And Banner should be outclassed imo.
In short, if on song I’d expect Sizing Europe to hose up. However, I couldn’t be confident this will be the case, and with the dead eight runners,
Roi Du Mee
represents a viable each way alternative at 8/1.
4.40 Gowran
Roi Du Mee
€5 e/w @ 8/1 (BV)- €50
October 6, 2013 at 14:57 #453890Captain Cee Bee’s still got it

While most are focusing on Longchamp, Eddie Harty’s wonderful old stalwart just hacked up in a Grade 3 hurdle at Tipperary. What a servant he’s been

"He’s back in full work. I’m not going to commit myself to a date (for his return) but at the moment it’s looking good.
"It looked bad at the time, but hopefully it’s going the right way. I think he’ll be staying over hurdles this season."
Not the Gigginstown RSA horse then by the sound of it. Enter

Sorry fellas, only been checking in on the phone the past few days and typing on that is a pain.
Thanks for that Boz, it’s slightly disappointing he’s staying over hurdles but good to know he’s well, and it makes things a lot simpler for us!
I generally prefer backing novice chaser for Cheltenham who only had one season hurdling, be interesting to see what sort of season he has.RULE THE WORLD RSA Winner the year after he be top class great news he getting better.

Henry De Bromhead he got quite a few nice ones. Was great to see Sizing Europe return with a win, hopefully he’ll bag another Grade 1 this season, he’s been some horse. Rubi Light and Baily Green ran crackers in behind him, at one stage I thought Rubi Light was going to win, but at least he improved on most of last season’s efforts.
I was impressed by Art Of Logistics Darren, he travelled powerfully and could be called the winner a fair bit out imo. His win bodes well for Un Atout don’t you think?
October 11, 2013 at 15:49 #454552Tommy this UN ATOUT will be a much better chaser than hurdler. but i worry for him on quick ground if he fav for cheltenham festival and ground is quick he a lay in my book he is.
October 13, 2013 at 14:22 #454816I commented after the Kerry National that Gift Of Dgab was the horse to take out of the race, and at 10/1 for today’s Munster National I’ll have a fiver each way. He was very keen last time and with that freshness hopefully out of the system he should be in the shake up.

October 17, 2013 at 11:16 #455154Very disappointing ‘news’ regarding Un Atout, he has the potential to be a top class chaser so I can only hope he’ll come back better than ever next season. The fact that he is out does make me wonder if Gigginstown will revise plans for Rule The World? Food for thought…
Nice card today at Punchestown. The feature race is dominated by Gigginstown runners with First Lieutenant odds on favourite ahead of
Roi Du Mee
, who I backed last time out at Gowran. I thought he was running a good race that day and I’ll back him in the hope he’s none the worse for that. First Lieutenant is definitely the superior animal at their best but he’s rarely at his best first time out.
I like
Art Of Logistics
in the novice chase. He receives a handy 8 lbs from Darwins Fox, but for me he has the most potential of the two at any rate. He looked to idle when he hit the front last time out, and I reckon there was plenty more in the tank. He’s being turned out again quickly which leads me to believe Dessie fells this is a good opportunity for him to get a graded win. I hope he’ll show why I rate Un Atout so highly.
I’ve also put
Shadow Eile
in for a fiver treble. If she bounces back to her best she’ll be thereabouts.

October 17, 2013 at 17:21 #455189Nice win by ART OF LOGISTICS that was intresting to see where he go next.
Also did you see juvinile hurdle race yesterday ORGRILLO BAY was impressive 1st time up over hurdles trainer has Lindenhurst as well. and horse he beat was 2nd to Mullins sort could be horses to keep a eye on and trainer could have other juviniles too.

Orgilgo Bay looked good yesterday Darren, juvenile hurdlers wouldn’t be my specialty but he’s probably as good as anything seen over here thus far.
Art Of Logistics was very impressive once again. He’s a great jumper and has a great attitude. The other two looked to be travelling slightly better three out but he kept responding to Cooper’s urgings and I always felt like he had plenty in the tank even at that stage. As you say it will be interesting to see where he goes next.

October 17, 2013 at 19:46 #455214Two bets for tomorrow’s Cheltenham card.
Rebel Fitz
runs in the 2m 4f novice chase. There are only two horses in opposition but they are two good ones in Taquin De Seuil and Third Intention. He has to give them both 8 lbs but he has race fitness on his side. Taquin De Seuil is having a first run over fences while Third Intention ran some excellent races in defeat last year without getting his head in front.
On the other hand, Rebel Fitz has plenty of fencing experience and more importantly it’s winning experience. I think he should be up to tomorrow’s task and evens is generous.
My other bet is
Rare Bob
in the Pertemps qualifier. He made a pleasing comeback over the smaller obstacles at Gowran when he was rode as if connections had another day in mind. He’s been given a hurdles mark of 126 in the UK, some 18 lbs lower than his chase rating. It’s a competitive race but he’s worth backing at 11/1.
Cheltenham 2.40
Rebel Fitz

Rare Bob

October 27, 2013 at 12:56 #456378Very Wood too short to back. Maxim Gorky should go close in the third race.
